Posted by Bill Newkirk on Wed Feb 3 16:52:53 2016 .........and it was my sister-in-law. She never calls me, only my brother. You can hear it in her voice, something very bad took place. My brother had a bad left knee that was bone on bone. Perhaps his knee gave way ?She stated that my brother had a very bad accident in their home yesterday. Yesterday, about noon, my sister-in-law heard a thud in the basement. It seems mmy brother fell down the stairs and at the bottom, he was in a pool of blood. My brother was on Cumadin, so that didn't help matters. After calling EMS, he was airlifted to the Baltimore Trauma Center where he is on life support. He has no brain stem activity and his pupils are dilated. He is on a ventilator, keeping him barely alive. I asked what the prognosis is and she said there is no prognosis. A few hours ago, she left for Baltimore to confer with doctors and I believe that she may decide to remove him from life support and he can join my mom and dad in Heaven. I am very upset with a feeling in my gut that won't go away. I am in a state of shock, and when the shock wears off, this all will hit me very hard. I had no other brothers or sisters, it was our small family of four, two sons of a WW II veteran and postal worker and homemaker mom. All born and raised in Brooklyn, we were a close family all brought up as church going and law abiding. Right now, I'm scared, really scared. Am I next ? I feel so empty and lost. I guess time heals all wounds. This may take some time. Forgive me if I don't answer any posts right away. I have some phone calls to make. Your condolences are very much apprecaited.
