Unions were necessary 100 years ago, when employers truly mistreated their workers. Now they've force feed people the idea that without a union, things would go right back to the 1800s.

Simple fact is they won't. We have federal, state and local laws that protect workers. Federally regulated minimum wage, OSHA, as much as some people (myself included) don't like it, Obamacare.

And they've used that lie as an excuse to make themselves bigger and more powerful unnecessarily. I was laughing my ass off for weeks several years ago when the head of the TWU demanded that the MTA chair took a pay cut, calling his six figure salary "unreasonable". Guess who else in that conversation makes six figures?

And the moment union workers get a raise, watch their dues go up. It's not about the good of the workers. It stopped being that ages ago.

And yes, to get my current job, I had to join a union. And so far they are living up to every expectation I've had of them. Least of which is the morons sending me someone else's mail, even after I called them and told them to stop it. They still won't tell me how they F'ed that up.
