Private Transportation B110

I went out to check the B110 to see if there was anything new. They bought 2501 from Harrisburg Capital Area Transit (CAT), and possibly 2502. The rest of the fleet is made up of ex-Orlando LYNX Gillig Phantoms.

520 - Ex-LYNX 521
521 - Ex-LYNX 525
522 - Ex-LYNX 532
551, 552, 553 kept their LYNX numbers.

I wonder if they still have the WMATA Orion V buses, but I did not see them on their tracker.

Also spotted was Monsey 7708, with GO Transit 2202 still visible on the roof.

If they're wrapping the buses with brachos, do they have to be buried as shaimos instead of traditional scrapping?

$3.25, exact change. Don't know if they accept bills. No Metrocards.

No, but most passengers prefer to.

There was segregation at one time, it was ruled illegal. But the people who ride that bus do it voluntarily, so it is rarely an issue.

That’s similar to the “school trips” operated by NYCT Bus. At one time the school trips which are operated as additional trips on regular routes from schools with heavy dismissal crowds only carried the students. At one point, I believe in the 1980s, the Feds stepped in and ruled that since the MTA was receiving Federal subsidies, the school trips had to accept regular passengers as well. If course I doubt that any passenger in his/her right mind would want to ride in a bus full of screaming high school students, but they were allowed to anyhow.

It isn't similar at all. The B110 has always been open to all, and it has never received any subsidies.

I assume from this that the B110 operator retired their fleet of Orion 5s?

The B110 was always open to the public. Finding the bus was an entirely different matter until they started posting its stops.

The MTA controls that map. The B110 was on the NYCDOT bus map.

As much as the public is not encouraged to ride LIRR, Metro North, NJ Transit, etc. Why should the MTA get paid for your ride on an independent operator's bus?

They have no tie to the MTA. They are a NYCDOT franchise holder. Most of those ceased to exist when they were bought out in the creation of MTA BUus. Right now, I believe it is just B110 and "The Red Bus" on Roosevelt Island.

Red Bus is free, and B110 is unsubsidized....

NetroCard can be used for non MTA applications..NICE Bus, PATH, and JFK Airtrain are prime examples, but they require complex agreements and systems for allocation of revenue, and in the case of NICE, transfers add another layer.

Why pay for something you have no real need for.

With buses only, you can say the public is not encouraged to ride the City of Long Beach bus, which is smack in the middle of MetroCard territory (NICE).

Better stated the other way around. That is, the franchise was granted in response to the bus company being a common carrier.

Other carriers within the city of New York do not appear on MTA maps. For example, Greyhound Lines operates an unmapped bus route between Brooklyn and Manhattan. NY Waterway operates unmapped bus routes in Manhattan. SNT Bus (Metro-North) operates unmapped bus routes in the Bronx. RIOC operates an unmapped bus route in Manhattan. Golden Touch (Downtown Alliance) operates an unmapped bus route in Manhattan.

The decisions by the New York City Transit Authority as to what routes appear on its maps appear to be arbitrary, decided by whim.

They still call the Point Lookout/Lido Beach bus the N69, even though MSBA got rid of it in the early 1980's by bus massacre by County Exec (Gullota ?).
