The site I saw only mentioned West Virginia in addition to NY as an exception.

Your site specifically that you do not have to stop in Colorado if there is a median and you are going in the opposite direction, so that is not an exception.

As far as Mississippi and North Dakota, I guess you would have to check the laws in those states. There could be exceptions for medians that the website you cite does not list. It is silent on medians for those states, but mentions them for NY.

So I was correct about Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania
When the bus stops with its red lights flashing and its stop arm extended, you must stop at least 10 feet away from the bus whether you are behind it or coming toward it on the same roadway or approaching an intersection at which the school bus is stopped. Remain stopped until the red lights stop flashing, the stop arm has been withdrawn, and the children have reached a safe place. There is only one exception to the school bus stopping requirement. If you are approaching a school bus that is stopped with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended and you are driving on the opposite side of a divided highway, (i.e. concrete/metal barriers, guide rails or trees/rocks/streams/grass median), you do not have to stop

No one said anything about you being correct or wrong. You stated that you never saw anyone stopping on the opposite side of a divided highway for a school bus. The reason as Spider and I stated was that it isn't required by law for you to stop in Pennsyvania when you are on the opposite side of a median.

Also, the school bus driver has complete control (which is intentional but can be abused).

Some have courtesy and wait to vehicles pass before putting out the sign and the flashing lights, some don't.

I've been behind a bus with flashing lights and the stop sign out. The only student getting off was in a wheelchair that the bus driver themself rolled off the bus onto the sidewalk, then the child's sibling(?) took control and pushed the student up to the front door of the house, only once the ramp was back in the bus, did the stop sign and lights get turned off.

Was that necessary?themself

I once was walking on the sidewalk when I saw a school bus stopped on a one lane street to wait for a child to enter the bus. He waited at least 10 minutes while he was talking to the child's mother. Meanwhile 14 cars were piled up behind the bus all the way to the next intersection with some cars blowing their horn. I think the child must have been eating lunch and the driver was waiting for the student to finish.

To be so inconsiderate was totally inexcusable. He could have gone around the block and come back. I felt obliged to do something although I wasn't being inconvenienced myself and gave both of them an argument for their inconsideration.

I find it odd that you know the bus was stopped for 10 minutes with 14 cars behind it all while walking on the sidewalk. If your walking, how the hell were you in the same place for 10 minutes? Why would anybody walking along minding their business bother to count the cars stopped for a school bus?

You felt obliged to do something so you argued with the bus driver and parent? Why, because if it don't suit you, it's a problem? If he had kids on the bus he should have called the cops. Harassment and/or disorderly conduct charge. Plus, depending on what you had to get out of you mouth, some charge related to minors being present.

You are nothing more then a trouble maker and a blow hard. Your own words paint that picture. I am so glad I opened this post by accident because I learned from you what you really are about.

A school bus blocking traffic for 10 minutes is not acceptable, and calling the bus driver on it is not "harrassment and disorderly conduct". If the story is true, the driver was obviously having a power trip.

School bus drivers are not mental giants. For one thing, they ought to angle the vehicle to pull the front door of the bus up to the curb like a real bus rather than stop out in the middle of the street like a damned trolley car. It's not terribly safe for the little legs to be climbing up to the first big step. Stopping every couple of hundred feet on a side street with sidewalks with high school aged kids is also unnecessary.

School buses operation has become far too much of traffic blocking affair.

I was curious how long he would keep drivers waiting,so I actually stopped and waited. So I was there for the ten minutes. I didn't want to make this a religious thing but now I will tell you the whole story. These were Orthodox Jews. So being Jewish myself,I asked the driver and the mother where it states in the Torah which they are studying all the time, that you should be so inconsiderate to to your fellow man. Of course neither had an answer.I hope the next time they think what they are doing instead of being so selfish.

The street was very narrow so it was not possible for the driver to not block the street. The driver was not on any power trip. He and the mother who was just as guilty are equally to blame.

This was in Borough Park and anyone who knows the area tries to avoid it between 3 and 5 PM and probably in the mornings as well because many streets are in total gridlock with hundreds of school buses in one neighborhood. You can stand on any corner at this time and count from four to ten school buses when you look in all four directions. I once counted 14.

You just changed the whole context of what happened with this explanation. If quoting the Torah, it is a Jewish to Jewish situation, far from argued with them over the actions done. No need arguing with any driver if there is a phone number to call. This driver could be a bigger problem then something that is just a dumb move, a menace to everybody's safety that needs to be addressed by the company.

I have found myself in a position where a call to the bus company and inquiring about a drivers actions were warranted, but it was while driving not this went on for 10 minutes while walking. A call of "By chance can you tell me if bus xxx has turn signals?" followed by "What would be the reason your driver is changing lanes and can't use them?".

I take back the trouble maker and blow hard comment, had the whole story been said I wouldn't have said it.

Thank you for the apology, but I don't see this as a Jewish to Jewish situation which is why I didn't mention religion in the first place. I don't even know if Torah was the correct word. Maybe I should have said Talmud. But whatever, it was about people not being selfish and considerate of others.

Perhaps, I shouldn't have used the word "argue" since we didn't really argue, but I did raise my voice and sounded annoyed when I asked them that question. They jus ignored me as if I wasn't there.

I doubt it if a phone call to the bus company would have accomplished anything, since the driver's driving ability was not what was in question.

School buses never waited for me. I was to be at the corner 2 blocks away at t 8:06am, or walked, or father drove me. Now some of these mothers nowadays think they're dispatchers.

A few years ago another poster said how he started an arguing with a bus driver because of what the driver did. If the bus has a phone and bus number on it, call the company and let them deal with there headaches.

Had you said "I was sitting in the park" and seen this it would be plausible, but walking for 10 minutes throws the red flag. "Argue" verse "Passed A Comment", is a big difference. Jewish person quoting the Torah to another Jewish person is just like a Catholic person quoting the 10 Commandments to another Catholic, pointing out how religion views their behavior. And I agree, I wouldn't have called the company for this, it wasn't a safety issue.

What I did was notice at the bus was holding up traffic and I continued walking. I reached the corner about two or three minutes later and realized the bus hadn't moved. Then I decided to retrace my steps to see what was going on. It took another two or three minutes to reach the bus. I waited another few minutes while I observed the situation. Now about ten minutes had passed. I brought up religion to emphasize how it should have affected their heavier ,but it obviously had no t on it since I doubt if any religion teaches you to be selfish or inconsiderate of others.

I am sure that Trump was not thinking specifically about Woodhaven BRT.

I also never thought of Trottenberg as the bad one here. She is only following her boss's direction. He is the one making the decisions. That's why the project is going forward. He wants to show his power over the communities. The question is how much is the city willing to spend and what will it include?

My feeling is that they will leave the project in the middle making an even bigger mess and use that as leverage for others to contribute more funding blaming Trump and the state saying the city spent all it can spend, so if you want the mess cleaned up give us more money. And more money will still make things worse if they don't modify their plans.

Funny how they insisted the Jamaica Avenue left turn had to be banned in the name of safety. Then after massive community protest, they realized they can design a safe left turn there. So why wasn't that in the original plan? Because they released a horrible plan without adequate study and data. They made many modifications but it still needs much more. Better yet if they drop the whole thing. A lawsuit seems to be the only way to stop this disaster.
