Yes, but since I was the first one making the turn, I had to turn into the right hand lane. That was most practicable for me. . I would have no way of knowing if a car behind me also wanted to turn right. But if someone behind me turned into the adjacent lane, he would not have been wrong according to the statute. |

It does not use the word "lanes" because in some areas you may be required to turn into a shoulder.I am sure they do not expect you to straddle two lanes. |

I never disputed that many drivers keep excessive distance.I was talking about aggressive drivers going 10 or 15 miles faster than everyone else by switching lanes five times in two seconds. Doing that while leaving only one car length ahead and behind you at 60 or 75 mph is not safe. If you call one car length at that speed "adequate clearance", you are dead wrong. |

They are.Someone who changes lanes five times in ten seconds which was the example I used is most certainly not allowing an adequate safe clearing distance. At sixty mph, it would be impossible to do in ten seconds with adequate clearing distances. One car clearance in front and behnd at 60 mph is not safe. But that is what you defended as being okay. |

What I find implausible is that ALL of the pedestrians were jaywalking north of the 8th Ave crosswalk AND nobody was using the same crosswalk as the light turn green. 20 people were crossing midblock while nobody was using the crosswalk at the start of the green phase at one of the busiest intersections of the world. |

Let's take him at his word that no pedestrian moved for 2 second. So BB moves forward and turns, blocking the crosswalk. Then he comes to a halt because someone is running across 8 Ave in front of him. Now the other 20 people are crossing in front of him, outside the crosswalk. It's at least plausible. |

No, to be semi-consistent with his earlier posts, you'd have to say that the first guy ran out into the street just outside of the crosswalk when his car was fully within the crosswalk. |
