The design line presence at howg was never more than 12 busses I believe. That quickly dwindled down to the 6 that we're mothballed today. Still have about 25 of the old cngs from the 7001-7077 series that were delivered back around 2000-2001. The loss of the design lines will hardly be felt. I wonder who brokered that disaster of a purchase? |

You don't take the chance on the new kid with that size operation. NJT is only lucky this didn't become another black eye. But then they announced that one of Governor Lardasses cronies is getting a made-up-for-him job at NJT. So all is still not right. |

Transit spec'd the bus so much that MCI wasn't prepared to bid the original order and didn't, so the only player was DesignLine. I'm thinking they could have had a corrupt little "arrangement" with DL to spec the bus so much no one else would bid, or that could just be Transit being Transit. Then when DL went bankrupt and NJT ordered MCIs as an additional order and a replacement order for the rest of the DL order that never came the feds wouldn't let Transit get rid of the DLs. The plan was to return the DLs to MCI and be given new MCIs in exchange but the feds wouldn't allow it and they funded this order so it's their call. |

And if they're still under warranty, EPV will be given the opportunity to repair them. Only if EPV determines they're irreparable will the feds allow their replacement. |

New companies/products always welcome as long as they are better than the existing product. Remember solyndra, the solar panel manufacturer that was the darling of the Obama administration? They lobbied hard to the tune of 2 million dollars and were rewarded with a 536 million loan guarantee and 25 million in tax breaks only to go chapter 11 in no time. Your current transportation secretary Anthony Fox happened to be legal counsel for design line when the njt contract was inked. Do ya think there's no connection between the deal that was struck with these two parties and the wink and a nod given to mr fox that if things blew up he would be provided with a soft landing with a cabinet position as Transportation Secretary. The older I get the more of a pessimist I become.. |

It's not just being better, it's being better at a competitive price. The Solyndra product was not a bad product, but the added power produced over a conventional flat plate design could not offset the higher costs. Plus, the Chinese were dumping Solar panels on the market below cost to try and kill competition. You can't compete against someone who is giving something away, when their government is subsidizing their losses. |
