Of course I do not have to be an engineer to have an informed opinion.

Do you have to be a doctor to have an opinion about a drug, a treatment or a hospital. No you don't.

Just like there are good and bad doctors, there are also good and bad traffic engineers. Yet the people here act as if a traffic engineer said it, it is gold, therefore true, and unquestionable. Utter nonsense.

Wrong. The traffic engineers here are giving you facts and/or the results of best practices analysis. They are not giving you opinions. So what they say IS gold, and the others here are correct to consider it as such, especially with respect to the uninformed opinions you are providing.

The 25 mph speed limit is all about making more money for the city. The majority of the persons hit were jay-walking to begin with!!!

The majority of the persons hit were jay-walking to begin with!!

Motorists were solely responsible in 53% of fatal collisions.

Motorists and pedestrians were each partially responsible in 17% of fatal collisions.

Pedestrians were solely responsible in 30% of fatal collisions.

But 47% is pretty close to a majority where pedestrians were at least partially responsible.

What if that number rose by 4% to 51%, what would your argument be then? You would just cite other statistics and ignore this one or say it was too close to call.

So if that were the case, I assume you support keeping the 30 mph speed limit on Queens Blvd and not lowering it to 25 mph, since DOT traffic engineers believe that 30 mph is the correct speed for Queens Blvd. is that correct?

Quoting Stephen:

Motorists were solely responsible in 53% of fatal collisions.

Motorists and pedestrians were each partially responsible in 17% of fatal collisions.

Pedestrians were solely responsible in 30% of fatal collisions.

If these figures changed by four percentage points such that motorists were solely responsible in 49% of cases, motorists and pedestrians were each partially responsible in 17% of cases, and pedestrians were solely responsible in 34% of cases, that still means that motorists were solely responsible in almost half of cases (rather than slightly over half) and were either solely or partially responsible in 67% of cases (two-thirds). So that wouldn't change the overall picture much at all.

You said

This is your quote:

"The traffic engineers here are giving you facts and/or the results of best practices analysis. They are not giving you opinions. So what they say IS gold..."

So by saying you didn't say anything about DOT traffic engineers, does that mean that those engineers are any less credible than Subchat traffic engineers?

If yes, please explain why.

If no, then it is reasonabe to assume that if what Subchat traffic engineers say "is gold", then what DOT engineers also say is gold. Those engineers stated that the appropriate speed for Queens Blvd is 30 mph. So please answer the question if you agree with them and if not, why not?

If you respond with another question, then you are obviously playing games and won't have an intelligent conversation. If that is the case, I won't waste my time with you.

No, it doesn't mean that. It only means what it means. You are having a discussion with Subchat traffic engineers and what they are telling you is gold. I made no comment about what the DOT traffic engineers say. And I shall not make any such comment about them at this time.

If no, then it is reasonabe to assume that if what Subchat traffic engineers say "is gold", then what DOT engineers also say is gold.
FALSE! I know the Subchat traffic engineers personally and I can vouch for them and say that their words are as good as gold. I do not know the DOT traffic engineers personally and thus can not make a similar statement.

If you respond with another question, then you are obviously playing games and won't have an intelligent conversation.
You are an idiot. That's not a question.

I do not believe that you know Subchat traffic engineers who comment here personally.
They wouldn't associate with someone who calls others idiots for no reason. If they do, it certainly would say a lot about them.

Besides I haven't seen any Subchat engineers advocate a 25 speed limit on Queens Blvd here. Can you show me some proof? I would also need a reason why they would disagree with DOT traffic engineers for it to have any meaning.

That's correct. And since I don't do that, there's no problem.

Besides I haven't seen any Subchat engineers advocate a 25 speed limit on Queens Blvd here.
What does that have to do with anything? We're not discussing that. Read back up the subthread.
