Need help with this picture

I found this picture on E-bay and would like to know several more things about it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Elmhurst-17-B-W-Orig-Neg/201138421635?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D23845%26meid%3D8683447088105960697%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D10180%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D201138421635

1 - The history of Elmhurst Transit. There is a town in ILL. known as Elmhurst. My quick research leads me to believe that the company is now part of PACE.

2 - What type of bus is this?

3 - Where was this picture taken? The bus was on a charter and parked at a curb between two late 1940's or early 1950's car as a clue to dating the picture.

4 - PACE runs routes into Chicago from Elmhurst, so I'm thinking its in Chi-town. I assume that the neighbor has a large Jewish population since there is a kosher butcher shop in the background.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Disclaimer: I have no interest on bidding on this picture nor am I affiliated with the seller in any way.

Wrong Elmhurst; the picture is at Queens Boulevard & 46th Street.

Not sure about the company or bus model. The 1933 Long Island Sunday Press New Year's Wishes include one from Municipal Motor Bus Co., Inc., 151-17 84th Road in Jamaica (apparently a house) and Elmhurst Transit Association, 40-06 82nd Street in Jackson Heights (corner of Roosevelt Avenue), with two phone numbers not matching the one on the bus.

Which is actually Sunnyside, not Elmhurst. I had totally forgotten the Queen of the Sea Restaurant. I thought that it was on the next block east on Queens Blvd. (46-xx), because there was a large store front on that block, which I think is now an oriental catering hall.

The QB identification would make sense, because there was a kosher deli on that block as seen in the picture. I also remember that it underwent an expansion from one store to two in the mid to late 1960's and closed up before my marriage in 1973.

Wonder if the company was strictly a charter outfit. I think people start remembering things around age 7 or 8. That would mean that I starting remembering a lot of stuff around 1957. Never remember ever seeing one of those buses. Based on the two parked cars the company could have been defunct by then.

Thank you for showing me that I am losing my mind, having grown up 2 and one half blocks from the restaurant.

Yup; the store at the left is Sunnyside Market Fruits & Vegetables - Best Variety on the Island. Island is what tipped me off that it wasn't Illinois (although coincidentally, there is a New Queen of the Sea Restaurant on Stony Island Avenue in Chicago).

Since the picture is of the north side of QB, there is a bar called The Excelsior in the picture. Sometime after the picture, but for as long as I can remember, it was the Merry-Go-Round Bar. They had a large circular bar with a motorized platform for patrons to sit on. It rotated very slowly (can't remember if it was clock or counter clock wise).

Most have been a big Oops if one fell off the rotating bar stool and on to the floor.

Well, Sunnyside Gardens would have been on the south side of QB pretty close to there. Maybe it was a "road trip" for the other Elmhurst to the boxing matches they used to show on the Dumont Network...LOL

This picture is of the north side of QB, between 45th and 46th Streets. You lived on the "wrong side" of the tracks, namely the south side of the tracks.

Correct Sunnyside Gardens was on the south west corner of Queens Blvd. and 45th Street, diagonally across from the picture. Your hunch about the bus maybe right. The building went down hill after the boxing matches lost their popularity.

It became a place for organizations to hold bazaars and flea markets.

I was lucky enough for my mother to get two passes to see a campaign stop in Oct. of JFK. Surprisingly there are pictures of him arriving for the stop but no pictures of him inside the building.

The real estate now houses a Wendy's. The building just to the west on the same block is still there. It used to be a Robert Hall clothing store, but now houses another apparel store.
