Correct Sunnyside Gardens was on the south west corner of Queens Blvd. and 45th Street, diagonally across from the picture. Your hunch about the bus maybe right. The building went down hill after the boxing matches lost their popularity.It became a place for organizations to hold bazaars and flea markets. I was lucky enough for my mother to get two passes to see a campaign stop in Oct. of JFK. Surprisingly there are pictures of him arriving for the stop but no pictures of him inside the building. The real estate now houses a Wendy's. The building just to the west on the same block is still there. It used to be a Robert Hall clothing store, but now houses another apparel store. |
