Some of these are overdue...although the 43 will probably draw protests from those who use it to get to and from work.

As far as the 451 and 604 routes, how do these fuckers at NJT expect riders from the areas served by these bus routes [Lindenwold and Trenton] to travel ALL THE WAY TO NEWARK OR WAYNE to attend the hearings.

DO THESE SHITHEADS REALIZE THE COST AND TIME IT TAKES TO GO UP THERE?????????

Why don't they hold hearings on those two routes in their respective service areas?

First, regarding the 93, will the extended 99 take over part of that route? NJT hasn't released intricate details yet of these changes.

With the 62, I've advocated for years breaking this route up. It serves SIX NJT rail stations (Metropark, Woodbridge, Rahway, Linden, Elizabeth-Broad St., and Newark-Penn Station), so naturally very few are going to ride the entire route from one of the two southern branch ends, and Newark. They could split it by running a 800-series route serving both southern branches of the 62, running from Woodbridge Mall to Perth Amboy via Rahway, and terminating the current 62 at Rahway. It isn't clear whether they will split the 62 route in Elizabeth, or wherever, but if the object is to provide 24-hour service to Newark Airport from as many points as possible, then the line needs to run as far south as possible, well south of Elizabeth. Or are they assigning different numbers to the two branches south of Rahway?

Next, about the 78 -- I don't that there's much of an alternative for these passengers, but if just a couple of years ago it rated an express service (the 378), then why is it now totally expendable? Why don't they mention the 378 in the cuts, or will express service survive?

As mentioned before, the 43 line could be perceived to duplicate much of the #1 line between Newark and Jersey City. But the 43 does take a different route, serving I believe a USPS facility in Kearny. Perhaps ridership was suffering as the USPS is?

With the 451, it may intitially be surprising they are cutting the portion of the route between a major shopping area and a PATCO station. It is said that the 451 is duplicated by PATCO. But in reality, PATCO doesn't stop at the Voorhees Town Center (formerly the Echelon Mall). It flies right by between the Ashland and Lindenwold stations. There are small private shuttles connecting Ashland with the Voorhees Town Center. The 403 and 459 lines still do serve both Voorhees Town Center and Lindenwold PATCO, so I guess if the connections are well coordinated, this cut is not all that bad.

In Trenton, the 604 segment to be eliminated appears to be along the route anyhow, so probably they will just cease stopping at the Justice Complex. The Trenton Transit Center and East Trenton segments will survive, as will a connection downtown with all the other 600-series routes, and it's only a few blocks walk to the Justice Complex from there.

The 124/129/329 can replace the 78, using Secaucus Junction as the connecting point. The 378 is a contract run for UPS.

A restructured 43 might do better, as the areas covered in Kearny are away from PATH.

I find it incredibly ridiculous that they would not have a hearing in Southern Jersey for these routes. But of course, with the way they handled the Southern Jersey cutbacks to routes that used to serve Philadelphia, I shouldn't be surprised at all!

The extended 99 will not cover any portion of the 93.

The 62's branches will indeed be broken up into at least 3-4 800-series routes, all of which will converge in Rahway.

This, according to the Greater Newark Bus Study..

There are tons of other VERY interesting recommendations in there, a couple of which have come to fruition (39 split into 30 and 30; Go-28; restructuring of the 13), but many of the others may take years to be implemented, if at all.

Sure, within the Secaucus area, there's the 124/129/329 services, and also the #2. But the segment between there and Newark is not easily substituted for without one going first from Newark to Jersey City by PATH and then taking the #2. Or, #1 and then #2.

Regarding the #378, I found out it IS set for elimination too along with the #78. While most press releases and NJT's own initial announcement mention only the #78, if you click into the individual bus announcements and click on the hearing notice link, there's 78/378 targeted for elimination: http://www.njtransit.com/sa/sa_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=ServiceAdjustmentTo&AdjustmentId=8688

I would think a reroute on the 40 to service the walmart in kearny would help. Even send trips to service the postal facility as another leg.

NJ Transit doesn't care to much about the southern division. Sad but true. We all know the money maker is in central and northern divisions. That's why they spend alot of time, energy, focus and money into those regions.

In Mercer, they are cutting the 604 somewhat, but just started a 655, albeit with some other funding sources.

What is ironic about the Camden-based routes is the 409 has survived unscathed despite the RiverLINE, and is still one of the few that has not been truncated back from Philly to Rand.

Yet alleged PATCO competition, which is not even NJT, is causing them to dis' another route.

The #409 survives most likely because it operates far enough from the route of the RiverLINE to still carry a substantial number of passengers, while also functioning as a feeder bus to the RiverLINE.

The #409 runs a faster route between Burlington and Camden via US 130, while the #419 takes the local service closer to the RiverLINE route south of Burlington. So the #409 still serves a purpose far apart from the RiverLINE.

I think the 409 could probably be split up at Burlington, with its northern portion becoming a Trenton-based 600-series route.
