Bus numbers are 3800 and 3801 is in Staten Island right now, preparing service maybe right now or in comming days.

Just pray that these buses want be in bus haven in days due to most of Staten Island roads are shit.

It would be sad if they kept them in Staten Island. Staten Island doesn't maintain their buses. The Orions they sent to KB are absolutely awful! They run like crap & they have body cancer!!
I spoke with a KB driver yesterday, and he said that KB will be getting hybrids in November.

I'm confused. Aren't 3800 and 3801 MTAB numbers? and if that's the case, what are they doing at Castleton?

Nevertheless, this should be very interesting...

They been sent those Orions to KB though like around last September! CAS didn't have the buses sent to KB GOHed beforehand and were sent in their crappy form. About 90% of the current fleet 1999 Orion V fleet has been GOHed (overhauled) since that point though.

This is very exciting! It's about time some new buses touched Staten Island. I'm going to pray with you too though that they survive some the horrible street conditions. I don't know how those Orion Vs and Novas do it.

Now before anybody says anything, Yukon and Castleton got their things in order and do maintain their fleet for the most part.

No they are not MTA Bus Company numbers.

MTA Bus's 2007 Orion VII numbers are 3500-3783

The 38XX numbers used to be NYCT 1985's GMC RTS-06 buses.

THANK GOD! I hope that's true because I officialy hate O5's. They suck, finally some O7's. The minute they go into service, I'm going out to get pics. I hope they get around 75-80 of them.

SIR: They sent them O5's in January and it's nice that SI is currently 90% GOH'd but about same percentage of KB's buses are rusted out, and most of the jacked up buses are from SI. The interiors have been fixed as best they could be but Last time I checked rust isn't an issue that can be easily fixed.

SI should have been forced to wait in line for new buses longer. UP, Grand Av, Flatbush, KB, GH and CS all had to suffer because of SI. And while SI's fleet has improved, you have to realize the problem wasn't fixed, it was just outsourced.

The O5s are awesome IMO, but they have a high breakdown rate which ruins it for me.

Not too long after Sept 4th, when the S89 began, the swapping commenced. It started with CS swapping and then with the Bronx depots. I would say that the peak of the changes was around October and November (it's all in SubChat's search engine!). In January, the major change was with the 93xx and 94xx Novas headed to Yukon while there were a few minor swaps with KB, CS and CAS.

We already know that the jacked up buses were from SI but that was because they were run into the ground prior to the changes and were sent out without a GOH, basically to outsource the problems as you stated. The SI division buses that were sent out did not receive the improvements made under the new SI Division management, while those that were staying on Staten Island did receive improvements and overhauls. Do you get it or no?

According to MTA CAS Hawk, CAS depot will receive 3800-4025 over the next 8 months. 4026-4199 will go to yukon giving the SI division apx. 400 new Orion Vii's and replacing all of our local buses

SI Division buses, however, rack up mileage more quickly than any other division in terms of local buses.

BTW, the first 400 buses from the order are slated for SI Division (225 or so for CAS and 175 for YUK).

I remember I was on a crowded 6311 (S44) and some kids threw a brick at the driver's side rear window. But because the bus was crowded, the B/O didn't know that the window was hit until we got to St. George when a passenger informed the B/O about it. The bus was then taken out of service and when I saw 6311 again along Henderson Avenue a few days later, it had a new window in it. I don't know about you but this is much of an improvement than the old SI Division.

And besides, you don't know the story behind the crack in the window other than it was a crack in a window. Maybe it happened before you boarded, or maybe the B/O didn't see it, or maybe they needed to put the bus in service regardless because of a shortage. I'm sure they got around to it when it got back to CAS, especially because the S53 has to pass CAS along it's route and there's usually someone observing out there.

Now that I'm really thinking about it, who is the Super Idiot behind this numbering shit. 850 Buses, there is NOT enough numbers to cover the whole order, you would need 3800-4649, they can only go up to 4299. #s 4330-4455 is gonna be covered by the new MCIs. What is the thought process. So now after 4299, they are gonna have to jump the numbers elsewhere!

What would've made perfect sense, would have been to #4300-4329, 2206-2235. Then the new order could've been 2236-2361. But Nooooooo!

I'd like to Razzle Dazzle the person that came up with this one.

Supposedly the 1999's (a good amount anyway) are going to MTA bus to replace the ex=NYCT 8000's. Keep in mind that with 400 new buses coming to SI and hundreds more elsewhere, there will be as much bus shifting, if not more, than what happened in Jamucary when Grand and Amsterdam opened. The only difference is it will happen one day at a time.

I don't see hybrids coming to College Point since only 3 depots in NYC can handle CNG's.

Don't give Yukon and Casteleton so much credit. The only reason 6216 and the others look so pristine is because the base shop made them look that way. Don't cry when your new buses look like crap when the vandalism seeps in. The SI thugs (a/k/a teenagers) will thrash these quickly just like the old ones. More so now since they have new "toys".

I love it when the geese inform the operators, on both the subway and bus side, of a take out of service defect after they get off the bus!

And the Staten Island Advance will blame NYCT for not maintaining the buses' interiors when the reality its the thugs who will ruin them because they have zero respect for property.

I have seen at least one RTS with bolts securing bulkhead cracks. It's the stuff you can't see easily that should make you nervous.

The vandals are visible, but a much smaller problem than the maintenance. The current strategy is to put non-needy buses in SI (to the chagrin of MTA Bus and QV!) so that they can park them in remote lots and perform bare bones maintenance. The Orion VII has never been that type of bus for any depot.

The NGs are a modified type (think GMC > TMC or TMC > NovaBus) that is familiar, but has enough different things that it may have some teething problems. If they are just barely making the schedules now, how are they going to be able to do that with a type that needs as much attention as an Orion VII? Can you say headaches? Ironically, the MCIs are the least needy buses in all of MTA land because they were built for limited maintenance intervals.

I disagree by and large, and I am going to give Yukon and Castleton that much credit.

Firstly, since you think you know what you're talking about, 6216 was overhauled last November and still looked like that when I rode it in May 2008. 6289 was overhauled in December and still looked like that when I rode it.

Secondly, vandalism happens all the time but the difference between now and then is that Yukon and Castleton won't leave it there for months like they used to. All they have to do now when there is scratches on the window is peel off the two layers of plastic and put on two new ones. And they never let any form of graffiti stay on a bus.

The SI Division is under new management, why do you keep ignoring that fact?

Back in the day, the blame did lie about 60% on Yukon and Castleton. I remember riding a CAS O5 that was bombed with black marker graffiti on the windows, seats, roof, poles, back door and pretty much anywhere they could reach. But I kept riding this same CAS O5 (usually on the S46) for months and it was still there! I was in shock that they didn't even think about cleaning it.

Nowadays, vandalism is much easier problem for Yukon and CAS to solve. Yukon's #6326 (which is in the S89 batch), was put on a S74 run full of school kids and was destroyed but a couple of days later, when I caught it on a AM S94, it was like new again. Yukon is even treating their current (and ancient) 1990 TMCs very well unlike last year's batch.

All you have to do, is take the ferry over during the PM Rush Hour to St. George and check the fleet out for yourself. I would presume the 5:30pm cycle though, when about 40 buses head in and out of St. George.

If it's going to take less than 8 months wouldn't they have to send 5 buses a week starting now?

I don't understand the point of 400 buses to SI like that. They're just going to get mangled at some point and have to be swapped with the newer NG O7's. I'll care about these buses when and if they hit the BX.

Thats what having 1292, 1294 and 1295 fixed.

We had those three buses to try them out, to see what was wrong, what needed to be changed. So my guess is like in most demo cases, the major bugs were fixed with the data given to Orion from the MTA.

Everyone else who has recieved Orion 7 NextGens have put them into service flawlessly, which is a feat by itself with Orion.

I was thoroughly impressed with the Toronto units I rode when I was there in May.

It will be very interesting to see what other buses will wind up moving around once the NG Orion VII start running. Is the order first for staten Island then other boroughs before MTA BUS and MTA Long Island Bus or how is it going to work?

Castleton and Yukon have had a fairly stable fleet since January and it's been kept in very good shape since then.

Just think..these buses were rehabbed last September through January and they still look just as good now in June.

1292, 1294, and 1295 were never on SI. Notice how certain issues (especially the bottoming out of the VII) were not accounted for in the first sizeable batches. How many buses did QV and WF have to get modified? My point is that large initial batches of bus types generally have teething problems. I don't remember hearing about Toronto having problems with their VIIs either and they got theirs before NYCT.

I'm not going to say that the Orion VIIs are garbage. It is obvious that Orion is trying very hard to get things right and it is beginning to show. However, SI is not the place to break in modified types of buses because they do not have the maintenance resources to do it.
