Were they just run in opposite directions from one another? Same for the 4 & 114-they both ran from Pt. Richmond Sq. to Richmondtown. What was the difference bet. them?Hound: I checked my collection of Staten Island bus maps from 1969 through 1986 and I see no reference to any route called the R or S - 116. There is an R-115, later S-115 that runs during rush hours apparently in both directions. The route had a nominal terminus at Seguine Avenue and Johnston Terrace. It ran clockwise via Johnston Avenue, Purdy Place Seguine Avenue, Foster Road,Rossville Avenue, Arthur Kill Road, Arden Avenue, Annadale Road, Amboy Road, Huguenot Avenue, Hylan Boulevard to Seguine Avenue and back to Johnston Terrace. Effective on September 13, 1987 the route was modified and re-designated S55/S56. Service on Seguine Avenue east of Hylan Boulevard was discontinued. The new route ran clockwise from the corner of Hylan Boulevard and Seguine Avenue as follows: via Seguine Avenue, Foster Road, Rossville Avenue, Arthur Kill Road, Arden Avenue, Annadale Road, Amboy Road, Luten Avenue and Hylan Boulevard back to Seguine Avenue. Buses ran in both directions around the loop. The S-55 ran clockwise while the S-56 ran anti-clockwise. The route was changed to Luten Avenue from Huguenot Avenue to serve the Tottenville High School. The new route is did not last very long. It is shown on the 1987 and 1988 maps. By the time the 1990 map was issued the S-55 and S-56 had been split into two separate routes each service on half of the previous loop and both were extended to the Staten Island Mall.
