In 382099, you wrote "Why are you unable to consider the subject more broadly? Perhaps because you can't. I'll accept that." In post 382091, you wrote "This why you post so much nonsense. I can explain to you all sorts of things you simply won't understand, because you have neither the background nor the interest to understand. Possibly this is a disability for you. So be it." You've posted plenty of other offensive and unnecessary labels for me and other people on this board. The proof is quite evident in this thread, among others. You also seem to have labels for me that no one else has, and think about people on this board in ways no one else does. You are certainly in the minority on these thoughts and feelings, and therefore, it is likely that we (the majority) is right on these issues and you are not.

No. There's a massive difference between on the one hand you not getting on with Brian, and on the other hand Ron not getting on with any member of the human race that feels the need for his brain as well as his spinal cord. The first problem is individual, the second is social.

Nah! I wouldn’t have anyone to insult properly and would soon stunt my creativity.

Let’s face it, when Ron is losing an argument, he immediately counters with one/some/all of these arguments, repeated ad nauseam:

1. You are only seeing…from a foamer’s point of view, therefore I am right and you are wrong.

2. You don’t have the experience…therefore I am right and you are wrong.

3. You are immature…therefore I am right and you are wrong.

4. The MTA is doing it. I wrote to them and supported it…therefore I am right and you are wrong.

5. I have the letter in my filing cabinet**…which says I’m right and you are wrong.

Much funnier would be to flag offending posts:

Ron Insult #3 etc.

and stop there. See at the end of the week who wins. Sets of ginzu knives available for the lucky ones!

One doesn't have to.

Article:

From The Times
February 05, 2007
You don’t have to read a book to talk wisely about it
Adam Sage in Paris

A distinguished professor of literature at Paris University has become a bestselling author with a work explaining how he comments authoritatively on books that he failed to finish, has forgotten or has never read.

Pierre Bayard, 52, who specialises in the link between literature and psychoanalysis, stunned specialists with the admission that he is anything but an assiduous reader.

He says that he often makes references in lectures, meetings, reviews and conversations to works that he has not read — without being found out.

However, Bayard — who has never finished Ulyssesby James Joyce and forgotten what Steppenwolf,Hermann Hesse’s classic novel, is about — claims that this in no way devalues his opinion.

Bookmanism

Or How to Appear Extremely Well-Read without Turning a Page

* You don’t have to read a book to talk wisely about it

“It’s possible to have a passionate conversation about a book that one has not read, including, perhaps especially, with someone else who has not read it.

“The discourse on books that have not been read places us at the heart of a creative process which leads us to their origin,” he says in his work, Comment Parler des Livres que l’on n’a pas Lus (How to Talk about Books that You Haven’t Read).

Although Professor Bayard’s work was destined for theworld of Parisian academia, it sold out almost immediately, was reprinted and is now rising to the top of the bestseller lists.

The publisher, Minuit, now wants to get it on supermarket and airport bookshelves. “I think the success shows that it has touched on a sensitive point,” Professor Bayard said, adding that his aim was to help people to avoid feeling guilty about their failure to read. He says, for instance, that he wants to free French intellectuals from the taboo that prevents them from confessing that they have only leafed through the works of Marcel Proust — “although that is the case for most of them”. He says that a valid literary opinion can be formed by dipping into a work, hearing others talk about it or skimming through a review of it.

Bayard’s list

Books he has started but not finished

The Man Without Qualities, Robert Musil

Ulysses, James Joyce

Books he has only heard others talk about

The Aeneid, Virgil

Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens

Books he has read but forgotten

The Interpretation of Dreams, Sigmund Freud

Steppenwolf, Hermann Hesse

Books about which he admits he knows nothing

Rhetoric, Aristotle

Mémoires, Joachim du Bellay

His top tips

How to talk about a book you have never read

Avoid precise details. Put aside rational thought. Let your sub-conscience express your personal relationship with the work

How to review a book

Put it in front of you, close your eyes and try to perceive what may interest you about it. Then write about yourself

How to discuss a book with its author

Stick to generalities, remain ambiguous and say how much you like the work

Showing your humor impairment again.

A real polymath would be able to manage simple arithmetic. It’s not as though we had ever asked you to manage calculus.

Triox is what? I know of the following breathing gases:

1. Air

2. Nitrox aka Enriched Air: a mixture with >21% of Oxygen, the remainder being substantially Nitrogen. Common blends are 32% Oxygen and 36% Oxygen.

3. Heliox: a mixture of Helium and Oxygen

4. Trimix: a mixture of Helium, Oxygen and Nitrogen.

the choice of which has to do with depth, decompression and oxygen toxicity.

Personally I have used air for almost all of my dives. I prefer to decompress rather than use Nitrox, as I have good air consumption. Anything involving Helium gets expensive: fills go from free (I have an air compressor) to the $40-$60 range.

Triox? What’s that. I hope you don’t mean Ozone. It’s poisonous.

"4. Trimix: a mixture of Helium, Oxygen and Nitrogen."

I have heard Triox used to refer to this by some divers. However, you are correct in that triox should be a synonym for ozone. Most subway riders have smelled it because when trains do their arcing thing with third rail, some ozone is made.

"Personally I have used air for almost all of my dives. I prefer to decompress rather than use Nitrox, as I have good air consumption"

As a careful and disciplined diver, this is always the best way to go. Bu if you can afford trimix (agreed it's expensive) it does have advantages.
