Re: My Route Suggestion of the Old Abandoned LIRR Rockaway Beach Branch

I still don't think that the demand justifies the expense. Yes the buses are crowded for small portion of the day and usually only in one direction. But most of the time they run with 2 to 15 people. Friday evenings when there are no classes, I'm usually the only one on the bus. Also, the technical problems you mention like the turn into SBR would have to be resolved.

I think the extra B-1s recently put on to Ocean Parkway since the introduction of MetroCard Gold and the end of the yellow taxi brigade helped a lot but you would know better than me about that. I've also noticed that since the high school was completed, there area about 12 extra buses put in around 3 PM to ease the loads. I think that works because dispatching is not a problem. It's to the College when you can't control the buses. I've noticed the B49 to be extremely reliable in the morning leaving Mackenzie. But after 2 PM, forget about it. Although, I think the schedule is something like 6 or 8 minutes. I've frequently seen only 2 buses come during the evening rush hour between 5 and 6 PM because they are stuck somehere up north probably on Bedford Avenue between Empire and Church which is extremely slow. They need more short service in the southern end.

Agreed the problem is more of a dispatching problem than not enough buses. And I agree about the ridiculous location of the terminal.

I don't know if I mentioned it before but the TA told me last year that they are all for extending both routes into the College and blame the College for lack of cooperation. They might not be telling the whole truth but I think if there were pressure from the College and cooperation they claim they are not getting, you could get the routes extended at least during peak times when travel to the College is heavy. Some one in the College needs to take the lead on this.
