Forgive me if this has been asked earlier but Since Sutphin Blvd. can accommodate a 600' train as can 34th Street and since the train will presumably operate non-stop, is it possible that the P train will be 10 car trains or are there some signal restrictions that would make that impossible? |

But, if they are running to 145th Street, then they can still use R32'as without much deadheading.Raiding Fresh Pond yard would involve a lot of deadheading. I don't know why the just don't double "E" service to 4 minutes, run the F local. Sutphin - 34th takes about 34 minutes, The "P" will take around 45-50 minutes. |

I don't remember what they were going to do when the P was going to run in June in the 1990's when Amtrak was going to strike. I know that the night before, I was all ready to go to Jamaica into the mayhem, just to be able to ride it (Back then was LONG before I ever road through Chrystie). Of course, that was stopped in the final hours, so it never came to pass. That time, Richmond Hill was going to be the transfer point for all diesel service, in which they would get off there and transfer to the J at 121st ST, so the P was going to use 121st St as a stop so people could get on from Richmond Hill. But of course, Richmond Hill was still a "real" station yet back then.In any event, I don't know if a metrocard would have cut it on the P train that time, (Well tokens actually). I don't know if I had a token ready, or was planning to buy a LIRR ticket at Jamaica in order to use it. |

Equipment will still have to be deadheaded to Jamaica for the start up service and Fresh Pond is closer than either 207 or Pitkin. Plus if the C is not eliminated for that day, there probably wouldn't be enough R-32s for both services even allowing for the possibility of some R-44s and 46s being used on the C to release R-32s for the P service. |

Except you have a lot of deadheading:If you're going to do that, at least have the P in service from 34-145 as an express (stopping at A stations before terminating on the lower level of 145). To me, the better idea here would be to have the Jamaica Center loop (Jamaica lower level to 34th as planned, then via the regular weekday E route to Jamaica Upper Level. If the F being there is an issue, for that weekend only the F is a local with the R and is shortened to 71st-Continental while the E for the weekend has its Queens terminal changed to 179 (running via the F after 71-Continental), with the P replacing the E for Jamaica Van Wyck, Sutphin and Jamaica upper. Those looking for lower Manhattan from Queens can make an easy transfer at 42nd. |

So, as said, for the weekend, have the F run local and shorten it to 71-Continental while E goes to 179 and the P is a Jamaica Center loop, running as planned to 34 and then via the regular weekday E route, but going as some E's in rush hours do to 179. |

No that makes no sense.First off, this service is being ran for LIRR riders not NYCT riders and most likely LIRR is footing the bill so unfair to make them pay for all that. Making F local can cost $$, but can be done. If running any express via local you do not want the R to still terminate at CTL as it will create a bottleneck. Extend R to 179 w/F and E and P go to JC. Point is moot though since it will run on J only. |

And that's why what I would do is:P is the Jamaica Center Loop, running with the J on the lower level and by itself on the upper level, running the regular weekday E route from 34-JC upper and replacing the E after Van Wyck Blvd. E has its terminal switched to 179. Given there are some E trains that still start/finish there in rush hours and the fact a good number of F riders there are looking for the E at some point, it would not be the worst thing. F is local in Queens, with its route shortened to 71-Continental. |

Jamaica & NYP, and since Woodside isn't bet. there it should be non-stopAnother plus to this service is those people who usually continue their trips by subway and paying a fare are already in the 'system', saving a $2.25 fare. The J line can much easier absorb all the extra trains needed.Furthermore, depending on where you are going, the J line is actually faster, WITH STOPS, than the E train is. For example, if using Chambers St as a zero point, the J gets there faster than the E train. But that is with J/Z skip stop service. A more super express J would get to Penn almost as fast as the E would, and that line can absorb the extra trains needed, while the E can't. |

I think NYCT wants to separate regular subway riders from LIRR riders.E and F trains are usually fit for Queens Blvd passengers in Queens, but they cannot carry all LIRR customers without chaos. (Look at PATH trains when NJ Transit and Amtrak trains are suspended....33rd Street station' gates are fully opened and NO ONE PAY FOR TICKET including regular passengers because of it.....NYCT does not want this situation.) And NYCT should consider mid stop passengers. At 53rd Street-Lex. Av station, there are a lot of passengers. (And due to station design, west-end of platform are always jammed....)They do not think train passing in front of them. |
