I could just imagine the scheduling demands that need to happen here to pull off a JC-L to JC-U with stops at Jamaica Center-Lower, Sutphin/Archer-Lower (Jamaica Station), Broadway Junction (Transfer to the L for East New York, the A for Nostrand Avenue, and the C for Atlantic Terminal), 34th/8th (Penn Station), Roosevelt (7 to Woodside), Continental (Forest Hills), Union Turnpike (Kew Gardens), Sutphin/Archer-Upper (Jamaica again), and Jamaica Center-Upper.J trains would need to be scheduled so that they immediately follow P trains, and operate at a frequency that allows them to use the Crescent Street pocket as a passing siding. M shuttle service would need to either be bustituted or extended to Chambers Street. C train service would probably need to run express from Canal to 59th Street, leaving the E as the only route to serve the 8th Avenue local stations. The P uses those tracks as well, but they of course, have only one stop. In northern Queens, the E and F would probably need to run local, with the R either delaying service on the E and F lines at Forest Hills, or running to 179th Street. |

Why not send the R to 179, and have everything "normal" run local from Queens Plaza to Briarwood?I'm sure Queen Blvd local could handle the E, F, and R on the local tracks if the R didn't terminate at Continental. |

Posted by Stephen Bauman on Tue Sep 14 21:53:37 2010, in response to Re: P Train Will Run In October, posted by Train Dude on Tue Sep 14 21:00:55 2010. Why not?If there's a way to do less with more effort and cost, the TA will choose it. The name of the game is to get passengers back and forth between Jamaica and Penn Sta. The best way to do this would be for a loop from Sutphin to Penn Sta via the J/Chrystie/W4 to Sutphin via the E. That means people at Sutphin will have 2 trains going to Penn Sta plus regular E service. It also means that people at Penn Sta will have 2 trains going to Sutphin plus regular E service. That's 33% more service than relaying at 145th (or any place else) will provide. The only downside, is that the Queens Blvd express track may be overwhelmed in the unlikely event that the E+F+P approaches 30 tph. There has been precedent for that event in the last few months: run the F as a local. |

I don't think the (C) would run on that weekend, This Line might use its R32's, unless the run a Mixure of R46's and R32's on it, 207th has 240 of the 152 of the are used on the (C), about 14 of them are use as refuse motors, totaling to 164 cars, so yeah they will have enough cars, the (P) would be 8 cars anyway. |

Actually:For this, the Jamaica Center loop (upper to lower level and back) would make the most sense to me, with for the weekend the E's re-routed to 179 and the F shortened to 71-Continental and running local with the R. That's how I would do it anyway. |
