It 1 isn't a national security secret. Members are still gonna get their first dibbs on tickets. In fact, it may even help the NYTM. Because, now some may buy memberships to the NYTM to get in early on the tickets and the NYTM gets not only the $$ from the membership sales but ticket sales too, which may even help the NYTM do more trips. I'm guessing people are just upset that the exclusive information they pay for was just learned by the "non-members".The non-members have every right to find out about these events at the proper point in time. I hope non-members find out about these events and attend with the hope that they ultimately become members. But, one of the many reasons I am a NYTM member is to get perks such as advance notice of events, and I (and I assume others as well) would appreciate it if the members only notification periods were respected by everyone. The TM trips are great. I hope you get a chance to ride one someday. |

Paul often does not practice what he preaches IMHO. His philosophy seems to be "do as I say but not as I do." This isn't the first time he hasn't exactly followed SOP.Are you a museum member? From your posts, I'm guessing you aren't. For whatever reason, the museum wants this kept under wraps until a certain date, and the members would like that as well, based on other posts made by people here who I know are members. I don't think having a members only notification/registration period is going to discourage people from joining the museum, especially since I know of no trip that has ever sold out during the members only period. |

I think the whole secrecy thing is overblown. Probably what the TM does not want is to be inundated by phone calls from the general public before the open reservation period begins. Likewise I am sure they do not want members calling before the membership reservation period begins. It's not like they have a dedicated 1-800 reservation line to handle these calls 24/7.Once the membership reservation period begins it really does not matter if they public knows about it or not. Members will still get priority so it makes no difference if you are the first member to call or the 100th. The museum staff probably does not want to field dozens of non-member calls only to tell them to call back another day. They can always outsource their reservation system to India :) Then again considering how Indian trains are overbooked - perhaps not.... |
