Or between 149/GC middle track and Bowling Green and relay around the old South Ferry loop the way weekend 5s do. This provides a nice, exciting express run and hits the East 59th shopping district, Grand Central, Union Square and all the important tourist stuff downtown. |

The first trip looks wonderful. It makes up for me missing last June's TOMC/Lo-V combination.The description of the third trip is a bit confusing. Are we riding the vintage buses all the way from the TM to Rockaway Park? Or bus one way and train the other? Or is there a switch between bus and train somewhere in between, such as Broadway Junction? |

No, R1/9's are not overrated.People want to ride a NOSTALGIA train for these things. That means they want something completely unlike any of the equipment today. For them that means rattan seats, paddle fans, and DC incandescents. These trips are not run strictly for railfans, they are run for the general public. Fact of the matter is when it comes to running these trains, the TOMC are too "familiar" to most of the public to be the sort of cool culture shock that a nostalgia train should be. Can it be for some? Probably. But most people aren't going to get too excited for cars that are very similar in terms of passenger environment as some of the older equipment still running today. If you don't like it, there is always the option to not go. As apparent from the 400+ posts in this thread, there are plenty of people already interested in these trips and the vast majority who wind up going don't even post here. |

I should also add that while the trips are not run strictly for railfans (they are run for the general public which INCLUDES railfans), this year they are going with a more "targeted" approach.However even among railfans there is a consensus that Arnines > TOMC when it comes to running a nostalgia train. More "culture shock" there too and for most every time is a treat. |
