It's definetely the C/R's position.

The red stripe indicates it's an end car.

At that station, 3rd Ave, doors open on the "off" side, meaning not the T/O's side.

The holding lights are visible for a few seconds

When the person recording this pans to the left, you can see the rest of the train

The platform map display is usually at the center of the platform.

When the doors open and they get off the train, you can see the C/R's board

You're right, it's the C/R's position. That's mad sick. And they were holding up the train and everything.

How this went on by the conductor's position with absolutely no response whatsoever is truly a disgrace to all conductors and train service personnel, who would have done something to alleviate this situation. Even asking the people to exit, then calling Control Center would have been at least doing something for the safety of the passengers, if not the combatants.

The lack of response was a disgrace BIG TIME!!! :-(

Yes indeed!! I mean how could he/she not at least call Control??? I am quite sure there will be some TA fallout over this towards the crew of this train, the conductor especially!!

All the times I responded to drama on my trains are the reasons why I have so many stories to tell!! :-D (I even assisted on the trains of others....yep, plenty of stories, and not necessarily the kind kids should ever hear!! :-D)

It's TA regulations-- train personnel is supposed to report the incident to tower operator or TA police and await further instruction(s) by tower.

If the crew called for assistance the train would have never left, especially if the conductor investigated and saw the extent of the woman's injuries and the amount of blood that was all in the car, typically that much "biological waste" would have warranted the car being isolated, given I had one time had to isolate a car when an altercation aboard the train resulted in less blood than this. And most times, isolating a car is to be done when the train is in a station.

Had the conductor even left the cab to see whats going on, with the mess on the train the woman's blood left, and the fact that the combatants were still there, that train would not have left at all, it would have been told to await police/medical assistance. In the minimum, the conductor could have asked the involved parties to leave the train. That case, the train could proceed on its way because the combatants have left, and no one else would have been hurt. That woman might not have been hurt on the train had this occurred, but still would have been wise to call Control Center and let them know about what is/might be still going on in the station, being as if the 2 guys continued fighting on the platform, there is a likelihood one if not both could end up on the tracks.

A decision to break up a fight on your own is in your own judgment, though often most never opt to do that at all (I guess I was a bonehead, I would have tired to get them to stop, just simply separating them, given how many times I have done that and I have had success each time in at least getting the parties to leave the train if not stop fighting all together!!)

Personally, if no weapons are involved, and the fight is just one-on-one, not multiple people, I would try to get the situation under control without police assistance and further delays. Once things were under control, then we proceed on our way. Of course no matter what, Control Center is informed of everything that's going on.

No you call control center and be governed by their instructions.you don't call the area tower unless you can't for some reason get thru to control and have the tower relay the message.

I agree the C/R should have called the Control Center. Its going to be easy to track this Crew down since a news station found the guy who recorded everything and he told them what time it happen. The MTA and NYPD already started an investigation.

In this case I doubt anyone involved in this will ever come forward
most likely fear from what the MTA will do to the fighters, you
know these tough guys don't want to face the cops at all. Karl M

It's okay, he can call me if he wants to. I'm always paying attention to local radio transmissions, while Control may be busy with something in another section of town. In fact, if I could change the rules, I would instruct train crews to get the attention of the tower, as well as the Control Center, AND relay their message to the tower immediately, rather than wait for a response. The faster I know what the problem is, the faster *I* can make a decision as to what to do with the service behind him.

Sometimes radio communication can be spotty if Control isn't keyed up to that exact location, but towers are usually keyed up. If Control isn't answering a train calling for help, I'll call the train from the tower, ask them what the problem is, and then relay that info to Control myself, either by radio or by phone.

Glad to see that you are on point Jason, still the rule is call the RCC first but if a smart Tower Operator is on it it helps as well..
