Maybe they wanted the names that were in New York County limits and not the borough of Manhattan (225th Street is in Bronx County limits but not the borough of the Bronx), and I guess Roosevelt Island does not wholly within New York County limits. |

Thats why I did the 36th st bridge onto Roosevelt Island in my quest to run every bridge in/out of Manhattan that is legal.So far I have also biked and run the Lincoln Tunnel (Biked the north tube, ran the south tube (twice in one day!). And run the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. Anyone know of any races through Queens Midtown or the Holland Tunnel? I am sorely tempted to try the High Bridge, it is just barbed wire, right? Upper Manhattan, 1st Ave, 3rd Ave, Willis, 145, 155, up to 207 etc is a nice 15K run or so to do in one run. |

Like in Elf?Alas, no. There is a race in April for Special Olympics of NJ that closes the south tube for a morning for a 5K run. Which is, start between the toll plaza and the tunnel mouth on the NJ side, and then run to the NY side, get out into sunlight, and immediatly turn around to run back to NJ. Turns out that is right on 5K. http://lincolntunnelchallenge.sonj.org/ The bike is the MS Bike Tour in October. (Did it in 2008. 2009 it was on Succot the bozos. Use a calendar guys!) 30, 60, or 100 mile rides. Both the 60 and hundred ride the tunnel. I was SOOO tempted to bike over to the toll lanes, find someone with a mini van, offer to pay the toll for a ride back to Manhattan so I could ride it again! It was a blast! I'll definitely check these out, although I'll need a bike though for the bike events. Being a skateboarder, we get the third or fourth Saturday of June to ourselves, and we skate from the Manhattan Bridge plaza over the Willy-B to North Side Williamsburg where we get free ice cream and drinks and free shirts, boards and shoes thrown into the crowd. Roosevelt Island - along with Randall's, Ward's, Governors, Liberty, U Thant and part of Ellis Islands (as well as Marble Hill)- is part of New York County, which is co-terminal with the Borough of Manhattan. None of them, however, are part of Manhattan Island, which seems to be what the quiz wanted. |
