9123-9162 and the Option II R-160B's (9807-9942) |
|
Posted by Widecab5 on Sat Jul 4 22:57:44 2009 All:Saw 9808-9812 up close today, and they definitely have Alstom Onix propulsion. All 140 cars in this group are destined to Jamaica for service. 40 R-160Bs (9123-9162) were transferred Coney Island to Jamaica to "meet service requirements." Simple as that. Clarification: Since at least 2001, Coney Island's fleet roster has varied between about 750 and 810 cars. Since delivery of the R-160B's it grew to about 850, but service levels have remained steady. Ergo, the 40 R-160B's that were transferred to Jamaica were expendable, given current service requirements. At least that was the explanation as received. True, if the R-110Bs are officially decomissioned (or transfered to C division). Even if not, the 179s could start at 3100 (or 3101), still have almost 2000 numbers available. |

Why not just go all the way to 9992? At least at that point you've maximized your 10-Car number availability. But again this is the MTA, they're having the new Hybrid buses jump from 4278 to 4330... |

So those will see the light at Jamaica, and then the Siemans sets will to to CI which will take the place of some R68's, and give the Q its full fleet of R160! That means then the rest of the R68 (Westinghouse Amrail) sets will either go to Pitkin, or Jamaica to replace some R44's! |

If that closes out the 160 order, what will they do to finish off those old cars?) |

Agreed, just like how it made no sense when the MTA didn't finish the R142 numbering up to 7210 and started with 1101-1250.Also with gaps like that, I don't understand why the 5-car R160 sets starts at 8653 than to start with 8661 [skipping 8 numbers]. |

How do you count 12 "Z"'s when there are 6 for the AM and 6 for the PM? You CAN use the same trains for both rush periods! And the last PM "Z" is a actually a J changed over to a "Z" by having shorter relay time at Parsons.Too bad you don't play baseball! You'd be batting 1.000! |

So they are ordering more four car sets? I don't understand why they don't order even more so the C can run 480' trains, as well as provide some flexibility so the Eastern division doesn't have to rely on the limited numbers of A-1's currently in service/on order. |

Wait, but I thought the Alstom and the Siemens sets can run together? Aside from he initial test, there was a period a few months ago where both sets ran together (I could get videos from Youtube if you like, but I'm not on the N/W much anymore). |

How I am Spreading Bulshit Rumors and I did not even write it on this Thread, Its obivous that the R32's might go to ENY, Reason:THE R42's are in bad Shape and the R32's are in very decent shape and they can last another year, the R42's on the other Hand are in very bad shape and yes I do know a whole lot about the R32's, I don't have to be a TA worker to Know about my favorite Subway Car. Im not like Those Foamers that Bust a Nut everytime they see an R160 or any other subway Car, I Just Mind my busness and do Me. So Who gives a rats ass if somebody wants to flame or curse Me Out, I don't pay this shit any Mind because the most of the subchattersact Like Little Fucking children, Even the ones that work with the TA. |

Y-O-U are the one who wrote that the J/Z shares R42's (soon to be R32's) and R160's. Re-read what I was responding to.The only person who says the R32's are going to ENY is Y-O-U, and that's only because they are your favorite subway car. LET IT GO! Those cars have HAD IT! The fact of the matter is this batch of R160s', highest number to be is 9974, will replace all old 60' cars. |
