Hmmm....Don't know that theye'd pull the engineer off to the sidelines and give him a few shots of water or whatever then put 'em back on the train with a few pats on the back and a "go get'em tiger".

I suspect that they changed engineers. I suspect they'd probably do a drug & alcohol test plus I guess it also depends on the emotional state of the engineers things like this are really upsetting. I know I could not do their job as I would be terrified of something like this happening to me.

Happened on the A line at least once a long time ago when they let the unlucky MM take the train to the yard after the incident before they "took him down". On the way lite to the yard, somebody else jumped in front of him.

Today you "go down" right from the incident location and a TSS takes the train to the yard.

While not twice in the same day, same run, same line, there was an engineer on the RVL who had the misfortune of hitting 3 people whithin a few month period. After a while, his nickname became "The Executioner". :-)

The carrier (whether a railroad or mass transit carrier) is required to administer a post incident test upon responsible crew members within a 3 hour time period after such incident. Does not mean the carrier can not ask the engineer or T/O to move the equipment to nearest point of available relief but is very rare since investigatory supervisor will likely be deadheading with relief engineer and would hold the railroad liable in the event the drug alcohol and breathalizer is not administered in time to cover the regulations. I also recall a NYCT-TWU claim where an RTO guy was charged and eventually aquitted with failure to provide specimens in the alloted time because the TSS van deadheading him from Lefferts on midnight tour to Jay Street for random testing broke down on Atlantic Avenue and he arrived too late.

I never heard of an engineer after such an incident being allowed to continue in service with the same train, be it uneventful or like this case eventful. With the investigations, questioning from law enforcement, company officials, piss tests and such, not to mention possible mental trauma with the engineer, I can not see how he was allowed to continue on after this first hit.

You'd think that in a situation like that the supt. would send another TSS or direct them to use a car service. There must be some kind of discretionary fund that Supt.s can use. Whatever, it's only some schnook T/O's career.

Its the TA policy to have an ESCORT on the midnight tours. It is proper and easier to use the agency's vehicle since any taxi service would be required to have enough insurance to equal all injured claims and worker's comp in case of a traffic accident. Having worked both in TA and now class 1, I get an escort at all times and have known claimants involved in such misfortunes of late arrival at MAC or being hurt in an accident while enroute. I don't know what funding has changed since they got the Line manager program, maybe TD can elaborate if RTO can borrow one of his Suburbans out of Pitkin Yd to transport an A or C line RTO member to the nearest MAC

It happened on the 6 a few years ago, guy got into a 12-9, told to take it back to the yard... on the way to the yard another one jumped in front of his train.

After that I would've been like "**** it!" I bet the people at control were like "are you kidding us!?"
