Well ... off topic for THIS board, and I've tired of the other "Germany uber alles" board, so won't carry on with the thought here other than pointing out the obvious. FWIW, I *used* to be a republican, but am now UNenrolled as I *never* embraced the other major party ever other than after the past eight years. I did *NOT* vote for Clinton in 1992 either, so we'll leave it there. Bottom line is that everyone KNEW it was a Ponzi scheme and yet the particular party who was against all that stuff only let the laissez fairy release the brakes and shut off the dynamics on the Cajon pass downgrade, and Salaam and other LA residents knows what happens as well when you do that. Let's just say it matters not who BUILT the ditch, it was the responsibility of the guards to notice that it was filling with water and overflowed as far as I'm concerned. Blame for the OTHER guys does nothing to stop the flood. :)

Seems we can't even have a little fun if it's going to be at the expense of a few kilowatts.

Maybe the expense of the few kilowatts made it unprofitable for the zoo.

Yes. This is true.

Besides that, money was not *really* lost.

I have waled on the streets around Bushwick: Safe Clean, much rebuilding.

It was money well spent, and value was received for it, and we are all better off for it. Some of the loans were shaky, most probably were not, and are yet being repaid properly.

The money WAS properly and well spent, value was received, people were paid for their work, and they too grew in turn.

The bankers packaged the mortgages, and sold them to bigger institutions, who in turn kept the good risks and packaged and sold the poor risks.

Up to this point, nobody lost any money. But all of the poor risks were packaged, and sold, offering higher interest because of the increased risk contained therein. People *bought* these risks in the hope of making more money on them than they could have had they purchased less risky financials.

THEY WERE WILLING TO TAKE THE PROFIT: THEY ARE THE ONES WHO SHOULD EAT THE LOSS.

The price is not set on the kilowatts.

There is the capital cost of the equipment, the labor of setting it up and taking it down, and a Zoo is particularly susceptible to the loss of discretionary spending. So they had to cut back expenses.

There is a malaise that is affecting the entire economy at the moment: What will President Obama do, more to the point which way the the moneycat jump? The market races up and down: it will go up again, but for the moment it is wait and see.

Wait and see does NOT help the economy: The Economy only works when money is flowing, not when it sits in stagnant pools.

You were never a true Republican. That's as empty a declaration as me claiming I'm technically a Democrat, or all those liberal callers to right-wing radio shows who preface their rants with "I'm a Republican, but ...".

You're an anti-conservative kook. I'd have more respect for you if you dropped the pretense of "conversion".

According to the response as to why, being greener was the reason cited, not lack of profit. Although that could also be the case, I really don't know. I would think they'd lose a good amount of the holiday crowd by cutting it.

I don't think that's so empty. To me it shows somebody who isn't just one of those, "My father was a _________, my grandfather was a _________, so I'm also a moron". :-)
The ones who say, "I'm a Republican, but..." are generally more of people trying to avoid getting yelled at by the other side. They're sick of being bashed for their unconditional support George Bush and they just want to have some comradeship in their political discussions. So they find an issue to agree with them on and try to act like one of the "good Republicans" as opposed to all those others. Seen it happen the other way around to, doesn't mean much to me either way. Lets here what you actually have to say, then we'll take it from there. (D,R,I, or w/e). I don't know, maybe I'm totally crazy with that analysis. :-)

And let's not forget that there's some of us who feel like Reagan did. "I didn't leave my party, MY party left ME." :(

I'm not pleased with either of them, but I'm still honked off at the party I spent most of my life registered as ... otherwise, I'd be indifferent. Simply means I actually still care enough TO be honked off.

The West Farms spur was at 180th St. and Boston Rd. 7th Av. (2) trains terminated there until 1951. No connection to either of the other 180th St. stations. The structural work is still visible north of Tremont Av. station where the (2)(5) northbound trains take a sharp right turn.

The deuce made an awful lot of stops, and it was faster to just hoof it all the way over to the 4 from Webster, D was a little over a block away and if I had time, I'd just get on the 3rd Avenue el and change at 149. But when I lived there, the D was the fastest way to get downtown.
