My read of the political situation is unfortunately that freight wouldn't be allowed to go under Manhattan Island. Of course, if you line up the right politicians to not oppose the plan, then it's different.

Though Jeremiah Healy is usually full of crap. The Pass-Through station at Hoboken would be EXCELLENT(actually it has been a fantasy of mine for a while). It would be FAR more useful than the crap they are making now.

Why put the station under Hoboken? A station under Jersey City is far closer to the commercial development and offers all the connections to PATH and HBLRT which a Hoboken site would.

Well, i have said that a station under Kennedy Boulevard would be nice, i think a station at hoboken terminal would be nice too, because it is close enough to jersey city's downtown area, plus the PATH and HBLR connect to it. Plus Hoboken can finally get some decent service.

That would have been ideal. And would have provided that ride to jfk that paturkey wanted plus it would have given the path station a realistic chance of looking like a real train station.

PA was not accommodating, most like. Especially when it comes to something like building it to the appropriate size.

That would have been an interesting configuration for tunnels to downtown, though.

Send the Hudson Line to Penn Station

It already goes there. Via Amtrak.

What you really want is the Hudson Line to go to St. John's Park Terminal, via a total rebuild of the West Side Line.

Where did this article come from? Almost makes one clamor for a monorail replacement of the NEC. (Looks like a Babelfish mangling.)

TUNNEL IMAGE — $5B ENVISAGE WOULD RELATE CITY TO 3 N.J. RANKS

A due rail hovel joining New Jersey to Manhattan would give passengers the no-transfer float in to Penn Station by 2014, officials pronounced yesterday.

The devise would be partial of the incomparable bid to enhance the region's commuter rail system.

The Hudson River hovel devise — dubbed "Access to the Region's Core" — is approaching to price as most as $5 billion as well as is partial of the "larger blueprint" which would emanate the cohesive informal mass movement system.

Riders who now take the Bergen, Main as well as Pascack lines would get the approach float in to the city with the assistance of the double back during the Secaucus Junction but carrying to shift trains to get in to the city.

"People who work in the city do not wish to transfer," pronounced Rich Roberts, NJ Transit's arch planner. "They don't wish to get out of their seats. They wish the one-seat ride."

Roberts pronounced the two-track hovel project, which is being concurrent by New Jersey Transit as well as the Port Authority, would revoke trade as well as have it simpler for people to get around New Jersey as well as in to the city.

"This is the good devise which takes vigour off buses as well as reduces trade upon the roads entrance in as well as out of Manhattan," he said.

The brand brand brand brand brand new hovel would additionally have it simpler to bond to Xanadu — the 104-acre site during the Meadowlands which will residence the sports as well as party formidable slated to open in 2007 — to Manhattan.

Riders could take the due Hudson-Bergen Light Rail prolongation from the Meadowlands as well as send during the Tonnelle Avenue Station in North Bergen, afterwards take trains to Penn Station.

"This would couple New Jersey's premier sports formidable with Penn Station as well as Times Square," Roberts said.

The devise is partial of the incomparable mass movement bid in New Jersey which includes the 1½-mile tie to couple the Pascack Valley Line in East Rutherford to the brand brand brand brand brand new Meadowlands hire in 2007. The devise includes the 1½-mile connector in in between the Pascack Valley Line in East Rutherford to the brand brand brand brand brand new Meadowlands Station.

The $150 million spur, which will be saved by the Port Authority, would bond riders in northern New Jersey to Xanadu by 2007.

The devise additionally calls for regulating dual burden lines for newcomer make use of by using self-powered motor fuel trains along the tracks, which widen north in the single citation to Tenafly as well as northwest in the alternative citation to Hawthorne.

Another $200 million devise would concede trains to run but the assistance of the locomotive since the array of tiny engines would be merged to the wheels of newcomer cars.

Roberts pronounced NJ Transit will run the feds to assistance compensate for the projects.

"We're seeking during the accumulation of sources," he said. "Federal supports have regularly been partial of the collateral program."

NJ Transit is spearheading the informal movement devise which will have removing in as well as out of New Jersey simpler than ever. Highlights include:
  • A brand brand brand brand brand new Hudson River rail tunnel, giving New Jersey riders the approach float in to the city

  • A 1½-mile connector from the Pascack Valley Line in East Rutherford to the brand brand brand brand brand new Meadowlands station

  • A double back during Secaucus Junction which would let riders upon the Bergen, Main as well as Pascack Valley lines strech the city directly but carrying to send to an additional train

  • A couple in in between the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail complement as well as the Xanadu sports as well as party complex

  • The make use of of "diesel multiple-unit" trains — cars which do not need to be pulled by the locomotive — upon dual freight lines in North Jersey to bond Hackensack to Hawthorne as well as Tenafly
