"Jersey City/Newport is not the CBD."While this may have some truth to it, I disagree with the unstated notion that there can be only one CBD. Only in the laboratory will that ever be true, anyway. In real life, a transit system may serve many CBD's. Downtown Brooklyn is a CBD. It may not be as important as lower and midtown Manhattan, but it cannot be ignored. Converting Hoboken to a through station is a concept worth considering if it is not ridiculously inconvenient (for example, if the existing station would have to be demolished and replaced with an underground station ten stories deep because it is so close to the shore and a tunnel would already have to be at that level at that point). Jersey City has been making a comeback and can't be dismissed lightly. In any case, it is always interesting when someone wants to be included in such a major project (reverse-NIMBY) instead of being excluded. |
