My read of the political situation is unfortunately that freight wouldn't be allowed to go under Manhattan Island. Of course, if you line up the right politicians to not oppose the plan, then it's different. |

Though Jeremiah Healy is usually full of crap. The Pass-Through station at Hoboken would be EXCELLENT(actually it has been a fantasy of mine for a while). It would be FAR more useful than the crap they are making now. |

A station under Jersey City is far closer to the commercial development and offers all the connections to PATH and HBLRT which a Hoboken site would. |

Well, i have said that a station under Kennedy Boulevard would be nice, i think a station at hoboken terminal would be nice too, because it is close enough to jersey city's downtown area, plus the PATH and HBLR connect to it. Plus Hoboken can finally get some decent service. |

Why wasn't the station built downtown? |
|
Posted by jb on Wed Jul 9 23:06:22 2008, in response to Re: Opposition to ARC Project Grows, posted by Andrew Saucci on Mon Jul 7 21:55:30 2008. That would have been ideal. And would have provided that ride to jfk that paturkey wanted plus it would have given the path station a realistic chance of looking like a real train station. |

How does the PATH station not look like a real train station? The diagram posted here has a station downtown, but that is a railfan dream. |

Especially when it comes to something like building it to the appropriate size. That would have been an interesting configuration for tunnels to downtown, though. |

Send the Hudson Line to Penn StationIt already goes there. Via Amtrak. What you really want is the Hudson Line to go to St. John's Park Terminal, via a total rebuild of the West Side Line. |

Funny you say that, and one of the intents of the subway was to run freight at night. (Presumably, it would have been connected to the general railway network to achieve that. Imagine an FRA-controlled NYC subway?) |
