Radio around HERE has sucked so loudly, we STILL remember une autre frggie named Ross Perot ... as they said in SpaceBalls ... "SUCK ... SUCK ... SUCK ... SUCK!" :)So ... I doubt it's Joe Isuzu, "Penumele ickiBoBo" ... so "whodat?" Up HERE, we obviously don't get the GOOD stuff ... and we're DAMNED grateful for XM here in "ClearchannelLand!" :) RADIO? That require a BOILER cleaning? Heh. |

Lately I've been listening more to WNYC.They don't have the commercials that old top40 radio and its ilk have. I've thought about getting XM or the other guy. But I'm on the old fashioned side and don't want PayRadio. It's bad enough I have cable. |

"Was it possible for a northbound 3rd Av. local to stop at 129th St. and then continue to the Bronx?"Seems like it, looking at the diagram in "Tracks of NY". And the Hagstrom street map shows a stop at 129th St. Or is the question tougher than I realize? Did all tracks not have platforms? |

There is something wrong with the map. 156 St station on the 3rd Ave line had side platforms not island platforms and it was a local stations not an express station. |

Hello Subwayman YES...that is a bad error by whomever made up the computer digitally created map illustration... However, the 3rd Ave EL DID have single center island wooden platforms (with only 2 tracks, NB & SB Locals, with some center passing sidings), including the E.156th Street El Station, prior to 1915-16 from Harlem River-E.133rd Street Station ALL the way to Bronx Park Terminal....including later Express E.149th St., E.177th St., and Fordham Road stations. ALL the Bronx Line EL Stations were rebuilt in 1915-16 to facilitate installation of thru center express tracks to what existed as know thru the Bronx portion El's closing end of April 1973. Probably you know that already ! Regards - Joe |

See here: http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/caption.pl?/img/maps/calcagno-1920-elevated.gifIt looks like there's no way from the uptown 3rd Av local to the Bronx, except for switching to the express south of 125th St. I suspect the express track north of this point was very little-used in the downtown direction, if this map is correct. |

Michael: 3 Avenue Local trains and any 3 Avenue trains operating on the lower level at 125 Street-3 Avenue would next stop at 129 Street which was on an elevated structure over a PRW between 3 Avenue and 2 Avenue. They could then continue to the great borough of The Bronx.Trains operating on the single track upper level at 125 Street-3 Avenue would operate through the 129 Street Yard complex on an upper level track without a platform and then join the upper level tracks from the 2 Avenue El. 2 Avenue El trains to and from The Bronx made there last stop in Manhattan at 125 Street -2 Avenue. There was no way the thru trains could stop at 129 Street from the 2 Avenue El. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Glad to see yo is (heh) following things there. ! Your table setting there at "the home" is collecting a lot of (heh) dust for some time ! By The way, fellow Bronx IRT man...didn't you like my newest fleet addition, the Hi-V Trailer (ABOVE, with one of my 2 Deck Roof Hi-V Motors)....sniff, no comments from you at NYCTMG when I posted the pics there...haruuumph.. The map is incorrect....3rd Ave. Uptown locals had a dedicated northbound track and platform side at E.129th street Station, lower (main) level....prior to 1920 and thereafter and up thru to May 12, 1955 Manhattan segment closing. The 129th St Local only Station was closed to passengers in 1950, (or by at latest 1952) if I recall correctly, thereafter the all local trains passed NB & SB thru the station. They did make very rare stops for IRT employees working there by request only. I rode trains many times thru there. Regards - Joe |

There also appears to be something wrong with the switch alignments N/O 149 St. If the 2nd Av expresses went to Freeman St, how would they have accessed the Westchester Av branch from the express track N/O 149 St before the Bergen Av cutoff was constructed? |
