The issue exists because it's not a normal service pattern. Canal St. is staffed with people who know how to handle that kind of junction. The WD is only inactive when there is a lineup established at the leaving home signal for a straight move. Normally, the tower operator leaves the lever in until they see for sure what train is coming, or the train punches [there's a punch at Canal NB, right?]. The last week they haven't had any C's coming up, so the lever was left clear, and the WD wasn't active. |

And People at Jay st don't know how to handle simple switching operations? Yes, they do.Prove it! Last Friday night, I railfanned an R38 A train from Canal to Jay (I eventually took the V to Franklin for the shuttle). The ride was smooth going, under the best circumstances with the call-ins at Canal Street, the manual signal operations using track gangs, and the slow going. None of this bothered me, what ticked me off was wne we got to High Street where we waited approximately 4 minutes (yes 4 minutes and that is well after we passed the restricted area.), while Jay Street gives us the homeball. Then when we were able to proceed, we entered Jay while a V train was idling because it will have to divert to the A line track before entering Jay. And to add futher insult to injury, the A train gets it's usual holding lights for about 1 minute, while the V follower is delayed outside Jay (and further backing up any F trains behind it, in the process.) The ride from Canal to Broadway-Nassau took less than 5 minutes, but the ride from High to leaving Jay took almost 8 minutes to complete. What is wrong with the picture? If the A was being held for homeball at High Street, why wouldn't Jay give the V to go ahead of us, at the very least? |
