Trouble at the CSX crossing in Darby-Philly Route 11 trolley |

The trolley tracks (as of 9 AM) have sunk below the railroad tracks and Route 11 cannot go to or come from Darby.So the 11 is gong as far south as Island Rd. and using Elmwood Depot as a turn around. Shuttle buses are running from Island road to and from Darby as we speak. In addition, Route 13 , Chester ave. is turning at Yeadon ,as normal, but pull-ins and pull-outs cannot use Darby. They are using either 49th st. or 58th Street for depot moves. The estimated repair time on the sunken crossing is unknown at this time. Also we just heard Route 10 is running to 40th & Market. not using the subway. Something about police activity at Spring Garden & Lancaster Aves. Another fun day on SEPTA. Chuck Greene |

The 13 has been an orphan long enough, it needs those switches and track. Ed Springer says there are problems at 9th and Main,for a switch to be added there.As far as that CSX crossing goes, it's a disaster. Trolley Driver Bill told me when they welded all the tracks together last time, they parked a CSX train on the crossing to bring the rails down to meet SEPTA's tracks , and then they welded. When the CSX train left, the whole thing rose up, now it's sunken down. Sounds like they need a good understructure at that location. as a former mechanical/draftsman/designer , I'm appalled. I say fix it right , and maybe send the 13 back through the woods like the old 62 route. Some track and wire will be needed there, of course. Chuck Greene |

From another website:SEPTA now expects completion of track repairs at the Route 11-CSX crossing "diamond" sometime Friday which would allow restoration of subway-surface operation to Darby Transportation Center. This is the second day of shuttle bus operation between Island & Elmwood and Darby as hard hats continue work to repair the at-grade trolley-railroad crossing. |

CSX keeps trying to get Maryland to pay for either re-double tracking the former B&O, they also want Maryland to pay of either deepening the Howard Street Tunnel to allow double stacks or pay for a new cross harbor tunnel (paralleling the I-95 tunnels).The General Assembly refuses to even allow such a bill to be considered. If CSX wants all this, let them pay for it. |

That's right, although if I still lived in Md, I would offer both upgrades in return for better MARC track time guarantees including baseball/other event spcls from DC. AND reduced track charges.
