The seats in 1967 and 1972 Stock are seriously underpadded.

I don't mind sitting sideways. I'd rather have neato huge windows curving over my head than sit facing forwards or backwards.

And I agree with you entirely about C Stock.

even if I didn't need a travelcard, it's cheaper than a return to zone 1 on Oyster!

Young Persons get discounts on Oyster if 1)they are under 16 and have a special Oyster card (effectively child rate)
2)they study at a school/college/university inside the M25, order a special oyster card, and even then it's only on seasons (ie a week or longer) that discounts apply.

Students who live in London, but study elsewhere are ineligable for discounted tickets.

National Rail offers, for £20, a railcard to under 26s that gives 33% off the bearer's NR tickets for a year. Rules apply about off peak if below a certain price, etc. As LU has never really been integrated with the rest of the country's rail, the only tickets that can be brought from LU ticket offices using the railcard are all-zone (1-6), one-day, off-peak travelcards, and extensions for further out on the met (and any NR fares they are willing to offer, like to the stations with direct NR trains).

one other side effect of the LU/NR split is that I can't buy a ticket to Amersham at most NR stations (the exceptions being few in number) - any other station on the NR network is fine (with the obvious exceptions of other Met/NR stations, and possibly Gunnersbury + Kew Gardens) from any NR ticket office. For instance, I can buy a single from any NR station to Great Missenden, but I can't buy a single from any NR station that doesn't have an LU ticket office or a direct train to Amersham. I can't even buy a ticket to Zone D unless i'm in London, maybe even only if i'm on LU or at Marylebone NR.

It's a disgrace, the only bonus is that London only costs about 60p more to get to (via one day travelcard with railcard) than Aylesbury (cheap day return with railcard).

The seats in 1967 and 1972 Stock are seriously underpadded.

It must just be that they're padded in different places, as I find the 1992 Stock's seats perfectly suited to the Waterloo & City Line (but the windows are wasted down there, I admit).

Ultimately, all tube seats are pretty awful though. The only thing going for them is they don't try to squeeze three abreast (I hate unrefurbished 455s!). But there is an aspect of relief on a hot July day to emerge from the crush of the Drain into a refurbed 455 with the roof of Waterloo station shimmering in the sunshine. And the stretch of railway from Waterloo to Clapham Junction is scenic. :-)

And I agree with you entirely about C Stock.

I'm waiting to see if the S Stock's going to be any more comfortable than C Stock. I doubt it.

I'm also waiting to see if it will be any faster than A Stock on those nice fast runs. I doubt that even more.

Oh, and I should like the C Stock... it was the first stock I ever rode (Wimbleware, August 1987)! I still am not as keen on it as the other surface stocks.

Why? "All trains go to Charing Cross, Waterloo, and Kennington" already suggests that "only some continue to Morden" while letting you know that all trains go to popular destinations like Charing X and Waterloo.

The useful additional information would be: "for Oval and all stations to Morden, change at Kennington as required" (i.e. it's no use getting off before then!). IINM, there is a sign somewhere saying something like that (or failing that a variable message that's more use than the standard nonsense), but I don't tend to pay much attention at Euston because I tend to use it a lot.

It looks like something once covered the word LONDON.

My guess is ENGLAND. Remember who the Met had a joint line with. Yes, the Money Sunk & Lost, now Gone Completely. In 1899/1900 it was even looking like the GCR would do a deal with the virtually bankrupt Stratford-upon-Avon and Midland Junction Railway and the as-yet-unbuilt and looking for funds North Warwickshire Railway and provide a third route to Birmingham as well as Manchester and Sheffield. In the end, Watkin-world didn't work, but you can't help but admire the ruthless optimism.

I like the 72 MkII for the warm and brown interior, mushy padded seats, cool porthole lights at the bulkheads and the best wheel noise in the entire LU! At Paddington, you can hear 'em weeping all the way up in Praed Street!

The 95's have the snazziest black and lemon interiors - nice contrast, and the D stock in unrehabbed state is nice and rustic, with the same oatmeal melamine material on the interior panels that I used to have on my elementary school cafeteria tabletops.
