I knew they existed when I was little, I just didn't know what car had what number.

Yes, but that's not the reason they got the good rolling stock.

Gem Spa is no more? There's still a newsstand there but I don't go in there anymore. I will check next time I walk up to St. Mark's.

When I worked in a bar on 9th St. around 1991, I used to know all the Indians who worked there and even went to their house for dinner.

One place I miss is the International Bar...

Its just like the R26 TO 33 cars..
They all look alike except they were built by different companies.

Yup. In the 1980's, new subway cars were a desirable political commodity. Ask Bronx riders why Brooklyn got the R68's first ...

Really? Tell me then, where SHOULD the R68's have gone first?

They have to go SOMEWHERE. SOMEONE is going to get shafted all the time.

Notably, what was the last B division car order before the 68's? Where did those cars run at the start of their lifespans?

Let me help you.

I don't deny that. But do you think that the Eastern Division was the least used branch(es) in the system (aside from the crosstown, which was running cars that were just a crappy).

Oh, I guess when you had R9's still out, they called them something else, but when they were gone, they became associated with them because that was the car that set the standard. There was also a separate one issued to A Div. just for the Pelham line. IIRC, that one had notches both perpendicular and parallel

Now, what's this?

They COULD have gone anywhere (except Jamaica or ENY). They ended up NOT going to the Bronx.

Not sure what the R46 pic you pointed to means. Those R46's were only on that line due to an emergency that forced them there for a SHORT time.

Heh. Wonder why they called them arnine keys when they were also used on everything IRT after the LoV's left. Fit all the redboids (A division version) ... and as to the "Pelham key" ... ain't got oen of those. Will have to do some whining I s'pose. Heh.

As to the buttplug, it was officially called "electric brake plug" although most of us preferred to refer it in interesting ways as various forms of trainmaster pacifiers ... it's the item on the bottom chained to the reverser so's you wouldn't lose it. Plugged in above the reverser in that big round cylinder on top of the controller ...

The 46s were exclusively running on the E, F, and N (when extended to 71Av on weekdays). The hand-me-down 44s (along with a whole mess of the 40s and 42s) that had been running on QB were sent to the CPW and Concourse lines. (Some 40s/42s were retained for the GG). 46s were on the D for only a brief time when they were first coming in during 1975-1976, but were banished due to complaints of excessive vibrations by residents along the Brighton ROW.

…or running a badly-tagged unit in service for one day.

Or even a well-tagged unit…whatever you might think of the vandalism, you have to agree that there is some definite artistry there.

Maybe if the n’Arrive-pas trains kept to a better schedule, there would be fewer opportunities for coach-painting.

BUT, the MTA did assign them there. Its not like they were neglecting the Bronx, as suggested.
