No. The R was extended to 179 St until the geese started honking about having to change trains at Kew Gardens to catch the express. Now the only expresses along the Hillside av branch are the rush hour E trains. |

Until 1976, it ran 24/7 from Continental to Smith/9th. Between 1976 and 1987, it terminated at Queens Plaza at nights. From 1987 to 1992, it terminated at Queens Plaza evenings, nights and weekends (when the R became the 24/7 local). From 1992 to 1999, it ran to 179th St at night (replacing the R). Sometime in 1994, the 63rd St. connector construction project forced the G to terminate at Court Sq on weekends. Service was usually 6 R32's, then 6 R46's after 1992. The F was routed to 57th St (then Queensbridge) in May of 1987 at night. For a while, the E served Hillside Ave overnights. After Archer Ave opened, the R was the only service at night. After the October 1992 service cuts forced the R to run as a shuttle in Brooklyn at night, the G was extended from Queens Plaza all the way to 179th to compensate. There were LOUD complaints about this service pattern, but it survived for almost 7 years. |

The F was routed back to Queens Blvd at night when the 63rd St's tubes had their roadbeds replaced. During that time, the orange Q terminated at 57th/6th, and the yellow "S" to 34th St/Broadway took over, single tracking around whatever section was being replaced. |

R32s did make random rare apperances on the G (I remember riding one sometime in 2000 or 2001) but in terms of car length, I can't remember if they were 10-car trains, 8-car trains or even 6-car trains. I don't know if that issue was ever addressed. Then after the G was cut back to Court Sq, and running to 71 Av evenings and late nights, 4-car R46s became the norm. |

No-- They were R32 sets out of Jamaica, but often were 8 cars longI never saw, but wouldnt be that surprised if there were 6 car sets on the G. |

It is entirely possible that a 10-car train was occasionally put into service in a pinch, but I had never seen one since I started using QB on a regular basis. IIRC, I did see one or 2 10 car G-trains when I used to work in Midwood. |

Not according to Train Dude, who worked Jamaica at the time. I personally never saw anything but a 10 car R32 G train after 1992. They were always borrowed consists returned to the E as soon as possible. |

We're talking about 2 different eras. Before 1992, the G was always R32 and it did indeed run 6 and sometimes 8 cars. But later, when the G became totally R46, it never used anything but a borrowed 10 car consist. |

From about 1997 to 1999, I took the J(or rarely A) & F. It wasn't until 1999 that I really started to use Queens Blvd. I never saw a 10-car G train on QB. I had originally thought that those R32 G's were 10 cars until I saw them stop at the 8-car marker. |

I guess I'll take your word for it.If I ever had a 32 on the G, I'd be in the first car or one of the rear cars (if going Queensbound). Plus, I wasn't really following transit that much, so I didn't take the time to count the cars after I got off the train. |

As a regular G line rider, pre V train, R32 G trains were always 10-cars.Occasionally, if they were short of a 2 car R46 set, they would run an 8 car train of R46s. |

Pretty much Smith/9 Sts. to Continental weekdays, and up to Queens Plaza during nights and weekends until the 63rd St. connector was built, then ended at Court Sq. |

I can see in the future that the G would turn back into a useful line when the white rennovation of Bed Stuy ends because these ppl are moving from LI and upstate; They want that G train to get them downtown faster than relying on the B38, B52, B26, B25 buses and the SLOW C train. If the G was to have more use cut back that V train and mix in service since the E is the favorite on 53rd st. |
