Story APPEARS to get more "interesting" in a new thread you'll see. Sicne I ain't done the nosebleed R contract cars from Bombasaki there, do they also have the 143-style "screw you leftie" controllers and armrest thingy on the cab window there or did they do something a bit saner for the 142's?

GOOD move! Like I said, I've run 143's ... never been in any of the 142 cabs. Only reason I got some handle time on the 143's 8101-8108 was because they were still the property of Kawasaki, had friends on both ends including a TSS who piped off the good ship Empty-Yay the next day, and got approval to "be there" ... it was a "gift" of a friend of a friend from Paturkey's office who got Kalikow to sign off on it. Or one of his puppets. So got to know the 143's pretty close up, and got to run it for a few stops and through the tunnel.

Didn't like it ONE bit. I thought the cars were pretty neat, had fun with the displays, opened and closed doors from the cab (offside of course) and thought they were really neat. My ONLY beach about the 143's is *WHAT* were they smoking when they put the T handle under the window like that. "Some day, this seat will be empty" was what I was told. I'm a rightie and that thing messed up my hand after a couple of stops. I can't even IMAGINE doing the canarsie "one-way only" and still have any feeling in my hand. And for LEFTIES, yipe! :(

That controller is EVIL, and I wonder how many of the "other incidents" had their outcome affected by that LOUSY design. And yeah, I was told REST my arm on the hump, makes it less painful. Ummm, no. :(

I kind of liked the R 143 control. It was kind of relaxing. However not a train I want to operate if I'm tired . At least on the R142/A you don't have an arm rest so you can get too relaxed without going in emergency. I think I'm not sure I never operated a R142. I wish I could operate a R142 for a few stops but that will have to wait until the day I decided to come back to A Div. The next best thing to that is wait for the R160's to come out.

Plus they have no outboard trigger boxes, no AMUE brakes, helical-cut gears, none of the charm of the old timers, roller bearings, etc.:)

If this is what they're planning to release, I'm upgrading to DOS. :)
