Really? I spent thirty years working on the railroad and know of several instances where people have been killed standing on or close to the tracks. Some of them were friends. Just because you don't like someone's political affiliation doesn't mean you should wish them dead. All like is valuable. And remember when someone is killed on the railroad tracks it becomes of the regular railroad workers to go out there and pick up the pieces; head, legs, arms. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

"U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal faced criticism and accusations of "stolen valor" during his 2010 Senate campaign after reports revealed he had repeatedly misstated his military record, falsely claiming he "served in Vietnam" when he actually served stateside in the Marine Corps Reserve during the Vietnam era. |

On the two instances in my 38 years of service where I witnessed a violent death on RR property, its the medical examiner or coroner that takes charge of the investigation. At the conclusion, its the EMS that picks up and bags the pieces and not any RR employees. RR employees Get involved when the equipment dead heads (sorry) to the nearest yard to be inspected for any additional body parts. |

So if you're fooling around 2 feet from the tracks you may think you're safe but of course you're not. Blumenthal was of course actually fairly safe because he was still a few inches from the edge, but it's a horribly foolish thing to do. What if he'd been blown into someone and then bounced off them right back into the train? |

It’s one thing to slightly embellish a resume but when you make a totally false claim that during your military service you served in a war zone when you didn’t is an affront to those who did and to the branch of service you were in. It not just dishonest, but disrespectful and despicable.Just my opinion on that subject. My father who started out as a Conductor and retired as a Motorman use to say “Standing near the edge of the platform should only be done if you want to take a chance of getting killed.” He also said “Leaning over and looking down the tracks to see if the train is coming is not going to make it come any faster.” My dad unfortunately had a few 12-9s in his career while operating a train and found two others hit by other trains. |

There non-stopping trains will pass through the station at high speed thereby creating a suction which can throw one off balance. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

I totally agree with your first point and am not ashamed of my total disdain for stolen valor, dick.As for your 2nd point, after my first 12-9, I learned to view them only from the perspective of the rolling stock, my job. I did have one lapse it that oerspective when I had 2 space cases one week apart at the same station and witnessed the passing of both during the extrication. Other than that, while I felt sympathy for the human beings, I never let it effect me beyond that, no matter how greusome the scene was. I can understand that a train operator might see things differently, especially if it was an accident or the result of a crime |

It's not about so-called "political affiliation"—in particular, it has to do with Da Nang Dick's actions. By that reasoning, nobody should have disdain for national socialists to that point, right? I personally do not and do believe that people can repent. |

There is, however, compressed air in front of the train that creates turbulence that can knock you off balance and send you falling towards the train. |

Dennis Hastert wanted to be excused for a "youthful indiscretion" that happened when he was 40. And he got away with it until he was nailed as having done even worse stuff. It's plain old hypocritical to excuse Republicans who did stupid things years ago but then call out Democrats. |
