It may also be possible to recover the captured heat and use it to power hand dryers available in most subway stations restrooms. |

There's is or was something similar on the Lex Grand Central. They use chillers with a fan. The water comes from GCT, as a result of the renovation. |

The water comes from GCT, as a result of the renovation.The cooling at Grand Central Lex goes back to 1999. https://www.nydailynews.com/1999/06/10/way-cool-system-for-grand-central-2/ But it still involves cool air blown onto people. If I understand "radiant cooling" it involves warm area radiating from sweaty passengers. |

When I lived in NYC in the late 60s there was a great blast of heat from the underside of the trains as heat was dissipated from the dynamic brakes. IINM now regen braking electricity is sent back into the system to move the trains. |

Is regen on all lines? If it were used on every subway line, you'd think the tunnels wouldn't be so hot. It's a huge waste to throw away the energy of an 1/2 to 1 million pounds of moving train that starts and stops every couple of minutes. |

It's a huge waste to throw away the energy of an 1/2 to 1 million pounds of moving train that starts and stops every couple of minutes.The way regen works is there has to be another train in that electrical section of track to accept it. If there isn't, it seems that it should be possible for the decelerating train to give up its energy to the station it's approaching, which could be used for heating, cooling, air purifiers and restroom hand dryers. |
