NJT MLV EMU testing at Millburn NJ, 04/29/26 (Fan Railer’s video)

Seems good enough to handle three trailer cars. Now if they had built one with a cab at one end, they could put a two-car set on the Princeton Dinky, but no . . . (if anyone holds pipe dreams of seeing these on MARC with their MLVs, I am sympathetic, frankly)

I'm at Ronkonkoma or is it Patchogue where third Rail power has been extended.

It seems there are two (2) TEST Cars located between two NJT Cab cars.

So, I ask can LIRR's Multilevel Cab Cars be compatible with NJT Multilevel trailers or cabs cars?

Who made these TEST CARS?

They would not be able to go to GCM if built for the LIRR.

Even if they would be assigned to NYP runs, in case the railroad goes into the toilet, they could not be rerouted.

There are so few M3 consists that the above is not an issue.

LIRR is not going to buy Alstom anything. They are also not going to buy any EMUs that do not fit into the 13' 4" tunnel clearance to/from GCM mini-terminal.

Now Metro-North has been mulling something in the MLV vein on and off. But I suspect they will not go with Alstom either.

The ML cars are too heavy for a specific bridge on the Princeton Branch. The solution is to lease a standing SL-V pair from NJT.

I know of no bias. The MTA has been buying from Kawasaki instead; I don't know what their bidding process is, or if Alstom (not Alstrom) even sent in a bid. Either way, the only MUs that will be ordered for the LIRR are single-levels.

Is that NJT's solution?

NJT has a million excuses for not upgrading the Princeton Branch. Meanwhile, they spend averages of $100 million per mile to upgrade the former CNJ in Bayonne for light rail; guess one extravagance is better than a simple upgrade. They are the same entity that canceled the Arrow III rebuild, to boot, and let ALP-44s get "destroyed" by a storm.

Just looked at something Google AI threw at me: It claims that the power car generates 2.3 megawatts, which is 3,084 horsepower, about the same as the F40PH. That would mean that a single power car is enough to haul around six or seven trailer cars by itself; of course for "acceleration" purposes, the limit will be around three trailers as seen in the video.
