Looks like a bit of false advertising in the offering info. Car 9075 was clearly not an R-33WF but is an R-33 main line car - clearly identified by the window arrangement.

Plus 10 days to move it after the winning bid is accepted unless you are a famous TV/Movie star then the City will bend over backwards and let that part of the sale conditions slide for months.

It could have run on the Flushing line for a short time either just before the WF cars were delivered or when they were being overhauled at Coney Island shops and some mainline cars were loaned to the 7 to maintain the service.

Without a doubt, you could be correct and likely are. But the posted literature claims that this car transported people to the World's Fair which it absolutely did not do in 1964-65.

Not surprising, mistakes like that and the World's Fair reference. Most media types are clueless about such things.

Maybe not #9075, but its "Main Line" sisters did at times operated on the #7, including briefly in April 2002.

Great pictures as always and I don't dispute yours or Murray's claim that this car or R-33MLs did operate on the #7 line. They just did not during the Y World's Fair of 1964-65.

Considering its mate is in the Atlantic, the modified side doors and with the required crane permits (city property), and the normal average of 15 to 20G for the low boy and its permits, and, without the current cost for fuel, this is more likely to take the lineup to SIMS over Branford and the city will pay to have it removed instead of asking twice the cost of its scrap value. Bid at your own risk

Nice catches. Especially the last one where an R17 is hooked up with a new R33/36WF car. One thing I've never seen is new equipment on a work train. Unusual, to say the least.

I would agree that they probably did not as I don't remember seeing any mainline cars on the 7 during the time the fair was open. Some did operate during the transition period in late 1963 before all the WF cars were delivered and at other times afterwards. These were great pictures and one even showed a pair of R36ML cars which were the least numerous of any SMEE car save for the R11s.

It wouldn’t be a good idea to send it to any museum property unless a mate could be found for it. If the car equipment crew at Shore Line could do it, an H2C drawhead could be salvaged from NYCT surplus and installed on the #2 end of the car so it can be coupled to the R-17. A hybrid unit like that is operable since when theR-26s first came on the property, I often saw a single one in a train of R-17s on Pelham.

They absolutely DID operate on the Flushing Line during the first year of the World’s Fair with an R-17 as the single since the original R-17 color was only slightly darker than the original R-29/33 red. When I was coming home from Queens College in the afternoon I would get off at 111 St and wait for the R-33 put in from the yard.

That second shot of the R-17 may be from a much earlier time when a train or 2 of R-17s might have been sent to Queens for testing. For one thing it has peoper signs which the 17s during the fair time did not. Also the car does not have seal beam headlights installed and by the time of then fair, all the R-17s were sealed beam equipped,

They wanted all the R12 - R15 to vanish from Queens before the Worlds Fair, hence the invasion of the main line cars.

They seemed "old" - clerestory roof, enameled poles, soft seats, exterior window hardware.

If they painted R17's (or R21/22) in Worlds Fair colors, rebuilt with R36 seats, nobody would have known the difference, and need not have bothered with the R33 singles.

Not true at all. The world fair cars were the first smee fleet not to use drop-sash windows. They had picture windows with vent windows above. I think pretty much anyone would have noticed.

True, but if that is all, not a big deal. Drop sash windows would have been appreciated in the summer before air conditioning, and they could have twisted open the storm door's window.
