Same for me
I had to scramble the other day when I had to use the subway
All I was able to find was a gaiter the NCAA gave me last year.

Most pro-mask people don't even know how masks are supposed to work, particularly the surgical masks.

Wrong ! I have worked at a hospital ER in NYC and the security was not armed - and many times the staff wished that they were due to the many situations that happened and the kinds of dangerous people who would come in looking to start a fight with anyone just for the fun of it.

Fair enough about NYC. Out here in and around the Pittsburgh area, all hospital security guards are armed.
Just out of curiosity, what NYC hospital was that?

All hospital ER's in NYC are that way - I worked at Metropolitan Hospital and part time at St. John's Hospital in Queens ( now closed ). Pennsylvania has its own rules and regulations - different from New York. The staff has complained about the problem to the administration and the response was a blank stare. Then when something serious happens, they cry out what could have been done ? No more for me.

I know what happens if you walk in a hospital without a mask in some LA area private hospitals. Reception will ask you to put one on and if you don't have one they ask you to leave. Depending on the hospital and the person, they won't necessarily give you a mask any longer unless you're a patient. I don't have any experience for what would happen if someone refuses.

If you don't follow a guard's safety instructions you are a trespasser. Obviously the guard won't pull out a gun and shoot you, but all hospitals must have procedures to deal with trespassers.

I entered a hospital for a test in April 2020, wearing a well-fitting N-95 mask. The guard insisted that I put on their own crappy surgical mask. So I put it over my mask. There was no way I was going to argue with the guard.

When I got to the office I was headed for, I asked if I could take off my extra mask, and they said sure, so I did.
