To commemorate its final run, the R-32 train will run on the Q line, its original debut route in 1964. Please join us to say farewell to this historic fleet. Approximate Schedule for Sunday, January 9th, 2022: Departs Brighton Beach Station on the Q line at 10am, 12:30pm, 3pm, 5:30pm, making express stops on the Brighton and Broadway Lines to 96th Street Station, via the Manhattan Bridge. I wish I could be there. I remember the first time I rode in one. It was a N Broadway express downtown from 57th St. It seemed to fly. And when R1-9s started showing up on the EE in 1967 after the Standards & Triplexs were gone and re-introducing prewar equipment to the Broadway BMT, the R32s when side by side seemed like the train of the future wheras the R1-9s seemed like ancient relics |

I was only on one round trip, that from 96th Street emanating around 11 A.M., then from Brighton Beach (back to 96th around 1:30 or so). I have long made it a policy to only keep to making one such round trip per "holiday" ride. F.T.R., I was within cars 3360-3361. Interesting touches they made there. Some of those on the trip made me glad I travel alone when I do these excursions. (No vandalism or anything, but it was a match as to who was louder - them or the subway.) |

I observed the R-32 train at 86th-2nd between 4:00pm and 4:15 this afternoon (1/9/2022). Fully packed in cars #3360-3361, which was guzzied to look like it was as almost new in 1964. I was gonna go to the 1230 run at BB with my eldest kid, but it was raining, we were both tired, and I was in no mood to schlep there only to have to put up with "the element", who make up the majority of these railfans. I comfort on the fact that, as a staple on my Sea Beach Line, along with the 4th Avenue and West End as well, that I had decades of enjoyment out of them. Of course I liked them pre-GOH better. The fans, storm doors open between cars, lights out on 3rd rail gaps, etc.. |
