San Diego, California
Coaster Commuter Rail

This article was written by Mr. Peter Erhlich

Coaster Commuter Rail begins service between San Diego and Oceanside, CA along the old Santa Fe's San Diego route. Initially, it operated peak hour runs only. The Coaster used the tri-level Bombardier "lozenge" coaches (ubiquitous to Toronto, Los Angeles and other mostly Western commuter rail lines), and a group of F40PH-2Cs. It made stops at Old Town (north San Diego), Sorrento Valley, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad Poinsettia and Carlsbad Village enroute. It shares trackage with Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner service and BNSF freight trains. At Oceanside, connections are made to Metrolink, as well as Amtrak, and the relatively new Sprinter DMU to Escondido.

Also on February 27, 1995, the move from Denver's Stapleton International Airport to the new Denver International Airport began. All through the day, a never-ending convoy of vehicles transported materials and other items from one site to the other. Of course, DIA has not been without its flaws. The baggage system was never fully functional, and ultimately they gave up on it and went back to the tried-and-true tugs and carts method of moving and loading baggage.

Yes it was Bill. If you see it at Branford the work number is still there.
