50 years ago, along with other Ronan fantasies.
MTA has zero interest now.

I think the current express trackways would simply become vacant, with local and express tracks all spreading apart.

Spreading the exp tks apart would have a negative impact however slight on the running time. My idea suggesting the the newly created island platforms being extended over the former local trackways would probably be the best way to handle it with the added advantage of providing very wide platforms for the passengers.

Depending on the politics of the situation, maybe the new senate majority leader can lean on a few people.

The airport terminal - obviously high volume for both incoming passengers and those leaving the airport.

Would need maybe a three track, three platform terminal - full length - 600 ft. for ten car trains (longer platforms if accessible also for LIRR service) to handle those going to the airport and leaving it.

If it was for both, subway & LIRR wouldn't FRA regs. have to be taken into account?
Interesting that plans were for a single track tunnel for this junction not 2 tracks (am I understanding this right?)

Did the plans state the route of the ROW into Kennedy? Or was it obvious from looking at the plans where the ROW would have been built.

And the inspection shed - I'm assuming that the plans took into account available land for this?

Five stations? Did the plans state their locations? Bus routes would have needed to be changed or added. Also within the city limits, station parking might be limited?

Again, how would this additional service/volume affect the already heavily used IND Queens line?

It would be "very interesting" to find out what happened to the original plans - discarded, squirreled away in some storage room somewhere, or in someone's private collection.

hi ed,long time.it was for lirr use only on the rbb.the single track tunnel caught my eye also, they have enough room in forest park for 2 tracks. there was plenty of room in kennedy in 1972.they did build the airtrain yard there.I don`t remember if the route in kennedy was laid out.gotta remember it was over 20 years ago when I saw the proposal.i,m assuming the would build new stations where the old one`s were I.E.ozone park, atlantic ave, brooklyn manor,ETC.i,m assuming the blueprints are still in the blueprint room at hillside facility.

I don't think you need blueprints of the old stations to build new ones. Brooklyn Manor and Parkside were built of wood. MTA's gold-plated proposal is to build 8 car platforms with heat to melt ice. Then there has to be ADA compliance.

I guess they didn't want the business that having a rail line would have provided. They didn't want the extra customers, they didn't want to be bothered. And heaven forbid someone that wasn't just like them might come into their store. Instead let the big box store just put them out of business entirely.

the little league didn't want the volume of trains coming along their fields.

Anyway, yeah. I could understand residents frustration too. Moving to "Upper Glendale", far form the train mean less population density and quiet. If someone likes the more congested area near a station like Fresh Pond Road on the M then live there. If you like less congestion move far from the train.

If not for trains, then what?

Tear down the Ozone Park section.

The embankment section running through the Forest Park might not have much value. It would be considered a magnet for crime and loitering.

The overpass at Metro would make a good billboard. Maybe level the area by Home Depot and sell land for a business that welcomes out of the way customers, like a gym. A Cross Fit box would be perfect.

The area between Metro and White Pot Junction would be usable as a walkway or bike lane. Or NYC could level it and charge monthly rates for parking. Parking sucks there.
