Do you close down all airspace within 50 miles of the route? It's chaotic enough to close down all airspace within 50 miles of the Capitol on Inauguration Day.There must be a small bunch of people who (a) are willing to give up their life, (b) know how to fly a small plane, and (c) can get access to explosives. The train would be a sitting duck. The key to keeping any POTUS safe is that no one externally knows exactly where he is until the very last minute. |

It would make sense to cancel the public inauguration ceremony altogether. They don't want crowds gathering anyway, due to the coronavirus situation. Add in the security concerns, and it makes even less sense. Biden and Harris should be quietly sworn in in some office, with no one else there except the Chief Justice, outgoing VP Mike Pence, Secret Service and a camera operator. Biden and Harris would still need to get to Washington somehow, of course. But I guess they are going through with the outdoor ceremony just to show that nothing can stop it. I pray they are right. |

IINM this was done in 1985 due to poor weather.Also, whenever Inauguration Day falls on a Sunday, the actual inauguration is in fact a small ceremony held at the White House with a “fake” inauguration held the following day. By sheer coincidence, all of the recent such double inaugurations have been of presidents beginning a second term. The last time a new president began his term on a Sunday was March 4, 1877. The only other time was in 1849. |
