Graffiti Scourge Returns to the Subway

Another knife in the back of NY’ers.

Bring back “Broken Windows” before it’s too late. And the sooner that lummox is out of City Hall in favor of a real leader of any political party, the better off everyone will be.

It looks like whoever is elected mayor in 2021 will be another 'woke' incompetent.

I don't understand how all those cars got tagged at night, they must have had many people defacing them in short period of time, as no one got caught in the act.
Graffiti is criminal, those who did it ,should pay for the clean up.

Noter that Curtis Sliwa (Guardian Angels founder) is planning on running for mayor. Regardless of what party he runs on, remember that when you enter the voting booth!

Broken Windows operates on the concept of people being held responsible for their own actions and held to a certain standard. We can't have THAT now, can we?!

But we DID have it, and the City was a beautiful place to be. Now that the graffiti is back, all we need now are the squeegee men, the hookers and the porn palaces and we could be right back in 1985.

Yes he does, NYPD reports to the Mayor. They merged transit police so Mayor has some blame in this.
Only lately has Cuomo had the MTA Police in the subway and there is not enough MTA cops compared to Transit Cops.
Transit Cops report to the Mayor.

this graffiti business is a real shame with revenues so low.
how is the graffiti cleaned off?
Is it done with a machine?
Also the 211's will have a blue and yellow stripe, how will that hold up to graffiti removal techniques
Thank you

Don't be surprised if NYPD is replaced by an enlarged MTA Police Force, they patrol SIR, who is not responsible to the Mayor, but to the Governor.

The only reason why NYPD forced a merger with Transit Police was to get at the money that NYCT was funding the Transit Police. NYPD didn't care about the Housing Police, but to make the take over of of the Transit Police look like a good idea, Housing Police was thrown into the merger. No one at a local NYPPD Station House wants the Housing assignment. Housing is just ignored until a 911 call is received.

My bet is the MTA Police will take over policing the subways,, especially if Prince Andrew sees political mileage out of it.

When Rudy was running for mayor, circa 1992, he was campaigning at the 86th and Lex S/B local plat, and there was a call for an aided who was at the booth area, where Rudy was. First the NYPD 019 pct cops show up, quickly followed by NYC EMS. They all had to wait until one if us (TD-04) showed up, as we always got 911 jobs 1 or 2 minutes behind them. So, TPD shows up, does the aided, aided transported to hospital (97H). Rudy then told the cops at the station that he didn't like the redundancy, and it cost the taxpayers more $$ to have 2 separate pairs of cops from 2 different departments responding to the same job. He said if he won and became Mayor, a merge of all 3 departments would be a priority. Plus, like I already said, the NYTPD PBA was on the precipice of getting a PERB-controlled contract that would have put them on par with, or slightly better, than the-then LIRRPD. So, when cousin-fucker won, he really pushed for the merge so it wouldn't come to fruition.

Frpom what I understand, since MTA police patrol RRs that are under FRA jurisdiction, in addition the the local police officer status they have on NY, NJ and Conn, they also have Federal police powers which have more teeth.

I went through the Academy with Metro North, and LIRR recruits, along with City and Housing recruits. Back then, LIRR was only NYS, METRO NORTH was NYS and CONN. The NJTP patrolled Metro North's NJ sections. I think it's still the same, except now the former LIRR and SIRT police members, after merging with Metro North PD, also gained Conn.
