The usual consist will be five of the new Budd-built Rail Diesel Cars (RDC’s).

Addendum: Jackson Park B Train added toe following:

Special RDCs were ordered for this train; 2 coaches and 1 baggage diner coach for each. While longer trains would have "borrowed" existing RDC 1 coaches from the commuter pool, the only times I saw or rode the train was only 3 cars. Food in the diner was excellent as one would expect from B&O.

A bit ironic that all subway stations that served Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds were local stops. (Notice I said, SUBWAY, not el).

'Trolley cars begin operation on the Sea Beach Line between Bath Junction and Coney Island.'

Was that in addition to the regular BRT rail service?

Steve B-8AVEXP, I have often wondered why they were local stops considering both venues predated the IND. While it would have made for three express stations in a row on the Concourse Line, it would have made since as it is not like they didn't have the same set up on 6th Avenue at 47-50th, 42nd and 34th Street Stations.

I think that if 155th St.-8th Ave. and 161st-River Ave had been built as express stops, it would have defeated the purpose of having an express track in the first place.

It was probably felt that since most baseball games take place outside the rush hour which is the only time the Concourse exp service ran having those stations as exp stops would be unnecessary.

Yes it does, but don’t forget that back when the subway was built baseball games were scheduled at different times and many ball parks (not sure about Yankee Stadium) didn’t have lights yet so no night games.

Even with Willie Mays, the Giants were struggling, both on the field and at the box office. They drew all of 654,000 for all of 1957 while the '62 Mets drew 922,530.

At the time, Shea stadium did not exist and O’Malley wanted to keep the Dodgers in Bkln evn though being very likely a Catholic, he should have realized that even in Queens, the Dodgers would still have been within the Catholic diocese of Brooklyn making it OK.

The projects replaced what had not been picked clean for scrap during WW II. The 159th St yard, itself, replaced the old 145th St el yard, located between what was then 7th & 8th Aves, in 1906. This yard had never been electrified and the locomotive repair shed and storage track in the north end of the yard were no longer needed.

Yeah the 2:00 start continued into the mid eighties. As the games got longer in terms of time they wound up with the 1:00 starts. The night games started at 8:00 until about the same time and again as the games began to consistently run into three hours the starts slipped to 7:30 and then 7:00. And this year I know they had some 6:00 starts.
