You sure the Lex/53 didn't open back in December of 88?

Thank you, as always.

I did not know that the IND free transfer to the 6 at Lex/51 was such a recent thing.

Main: Maybe I shuold clarify the above. The free transfer point was established on Sunday,December 11, 1988 coinciding with the opening of the Archer Avenue Line. I was there that day and it was not open. I assume that it did open the following Monday.

I do not remember the details but I believe that there was a temporary passageway in use until June 1989.

Does anyone here remember more details?

Harmon Cove was never much of a station.

That passageway was built as part of the construction of the office tower above, 599 Lexington Av between 52 & 53 Streets. Perhaps the owners got a variance in return for building the passageway. I don't know if they're still responsible for maintaining it. The building opened in 1986, but the passageway may have taken longer.

That connection was a surprisingly complex piece of construction due to the distance underground between the two stations. I remember the street being opened up for a long time on the west side of Lexington Avenue for the connection to the downtown 6 platform. Lexington Avenue is not a wide street that is why the express tracks are underneath the local tracks from just north of Grand Central to 125th St.

You know the express tracks come up to the local tracks north of 96th and go under south of 116th where on the north side for whatever reason the local and express tracks switch sides going to 125th.
