Some (most?) of us are old enough to remember. I only remember specifically what they did at Newkirk and the local stations and the results are visible. I don't remember what they did at PP, Church, KH, or SB because maybe they didn't do anything.

That trip took place on March 23, 1974. The consist was D-Types 6019 and 6095. We made three round trips on the Culver Shuttle making regular stops with normal people (not railfans).

Well, the World’s fair terminal was above ground, more akin to a Chicago el station, and in that case the entire line was removed sort of like the Kenwood or Humboldt Pk branches.

Even with the C types, the BMT did a much better job converting gate cars than the IRT. While the BMT moved the M/Ms’ cabs forward into the now enclosed platforms and cut completely new door openings in the sides of the cars, the IRT simply placed sliding doors at the enclosed platforms and didn’t even move the M/Ms’ cabs onto the platforms like the Hi-Vs and Lo-Vs but left the cabs in their original places so that the M/M had to look through the front platform.

That's not the curve that poses a danger.
Tight turns are Alabama Avenue to Bway..Broadway to the Williamsburg Bridge,and the Bridge Portal curve.
If anything can be straightened out, it will take money.

Great shots!

As noted the southbound side would be very similar to how it was before in a rebuild, with obviously south of the station a connection to the southbound local track. The north side would likely see a new upper level of Ditmas with that then crossing over the tracks and come in above the southbound track with two levels of single track most of the way with a handful of cases where the level comes even to allow for crossovers.

Perhaps, they wanted a replacement station at Cypress Hills, like the current one. The Cypress Hills cemeteries were visited by a lot of people, back then.

I don’t understand how the Alabama curve can be any problem since it is nowhere near as sharp as Crescent.

I think the right of way was obliterated either by Jamaica Yard expansion or the Van Wyck Expressway.

I believe that it was some time ago somebody on this forum posted a track map of the World's Fair line for the G (and E train), and how it connected to the Queens IND train yard, and beyond.

Wasn't there an entire book (with photographs) about the World's Fair IND Subway line?

I might have to go look for that. (Smile)

The book you're referring to is titled "Subway to the World's Fair" by Kramer (don't have the author's first name or publisher info. at hand right now). You can probably find it at the second hand book website - abebooks. Or possibly a lone copy might turn up at either of the Transit Museum store or its GC annex.

Kramer also wrote a book on the buiding of the Independent subway - same publisher. Both titles softcover. dimensions 8&1/2 x 11" or 9 x 11"
