You're an unimpeachable source, Elkeeper. You must be because you said so.

I am adding them to Wikipedia, which is an online encyclopedia, and therefore need this information verified. I am not asking for sources because I do not trust you.

No.
The original J/Nassau St Express signal was used on the R27/30/30a.
The R42 and most other cars had new curtains replace the originals,or tapped over portions.
The TA didn't have J signs for the R16...so they used orange JJ readings, with occasional QJ via Nassau St signs.
The R1/9 had the "Q" tapped over..the 42 had "M" placed on the Coney Island QJ rollsigns, with black and white fields, not the M lines Light Blue.
This confusion lasted for years, with mislabeled trains operating system wide, until correct signs were ordered.

The route numbers appeared on BMT maps and on any route the triplexes ran on right to the end.

The triplexes had only numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7.

When the Brighton Local ran to Franklin on Saturday, the Triplexes bore the number 7.

BMT route numbering first appeared on the first Triplexes on July 23, 1925. The BMT numbering system can be found on page 52 of, A HISTORY OF THE NEW YORK CITY SUBWAY SYSTEM- RAPID TRANSIT in BROOKLYN, by Cunningham & DeHart. SOURCES NEEDED-SOURCES NEEDED-SOURCES NEEDED, ad nausium...! I guess these guys don't rust us, Larry!!!

I believe that Union Tpke is making a sincere and honest effort to qualify and document his research. We only have written sources to rely on and they may not answer all the questions. Something that was written very accurately back in the twenties may not translate well in the 2020's. With one notable exception the Myrtle-Chambers Street line started running long before most of us came down pike.

In this case Elkeeper answered a question that wasn't asked.

The question asked was Do you have sources for the fact that the number 10 was assigned to the service in 1924?

The answer is 1924. The PROFF is in the BMT map and subway guide for 1924.

His answer was: BMT route numbering first appeared on the first Triplexes on July 23, 1925.

In Jeopardy that would the answer: "When did route numbers first appear on BMT equipment."

Maybe he shouldn't puff up his feathers so much and call skilled transit historians names.

I daresay that we were all a little full of ourselves at an earlier age.

I used to drive the adults nuts about the transit system because I knew more than they did.

Also, have fun with that service guide. A lot more than Myrtle-Chambers on it.

Yes, the TA made an absolute mess of signage.

It’s about time. I never understood the TA’s reluctance the eliminate the end destination signs from the cars especially since the artyists’ renderings of the R-40s clearly showed the cars having them.
