No (C) train service; service suspended

Posted by Gold_12th on Mon Mar 23 09:01:19 2020

... due to COVID-19 virus precaution

Lefferts Blvd A trains run local in Brooklyn and some trains in Manhattan.

Far Rockaway A trains run express in Brooklyn, Manhattan

Strange. They have enough staff on Sundays to run the C.

C train worker positive for COVID-19, they need to disinfect all cars assigned or used on the C and all work locations that employee has been to like crew rooms, report locations etc.

So some C crews could be reassigned to A at Lefferts I guess.

I'd run C to Lefferts and A to Far Rock.

That's basically what the pattern is - except all are branded as A trains. Locals to/from Lefferts; expresses to/from Far Rockaway.

Do they ever reassign train sets between the A & C ?

Does a R68 "B" train still go into PM A train service ?

Ok.

If a C worked is COVID + and touched a punch box for a lineup then the A crews are exposed.

That sounds like if a worker on any line tested positive for COVID-19 then all cars used on that line would also have to be taken O/S to be disinfected. The problem with just disinfecting one line is that some employees might be working more than one line within the district. If that were the case, then what? Do you take all cars that service all the lines in the district O/S. If an employee in one of the lines that served Stl were to turn up positive would that mean that the crew room and T/D offices at Stl and all the cars of all the lines that serve Stl and all the crew quarters of all the lines originating at Stl would all have to be closed and removed from service?

They know which cars he worked on, right? So this shouldn't involve "all cars assigned or used on the C" but I guess it does mean the crew quarters at 168 St. and Euclid Ave. have the virus. But it only remains infectious on non-living surfaces for a few hours, right?

It's kind of silly to think of containing the virus by subway line.

It's highly contagious and does not care about lines.

A T/O on the C line touches punch boxes shared by other lines so those lines so those employees are just as exposed.

Yes. The A line still uses an R68 for one round trip from the B line pool.

All I meant was that a staff shortage didn't seem like a sensible explanation for the C closure. And it wasn't the explanation.

According to a coworker of my daughter who works at a 311 call center, he was waiting at one of the C Line stations at ENY a little after 800AM this morning and several minutes after the train was due at his station and didn’t come. an announcement was made that there would be a delay in service because one of the members of the train crew refused to take the rain any farther in service and just left it wherever it was causing the 311 employee to be late for work. I don’t have any more details than that since I don’t know the specific station but something does sound a bit strange about his story.

Yeah but he punches in at Kronos, and signs in on the Dispatchers sheet, and holds the door on the way in to the Crew Reporting Center, and coughs and sneezes during fitness for duty, etc, etc. So its possible for this to bloom out up to 72hours.

NY Post reported a conductor had the virus. Most conductors from the AM tour were sent home.

Tomorrow is another day. Hopefully they'll have enough extra list conductors pre-assigned Tuesday.

" ...an announcement was made that there would be a delay in service because one of the members of the train crew refused to take the train any farther in service..."

I can't believe that an announcement like that would be made. They would have given some general, euphemistic reason, maybe "equipment trouble," or "an incident, or maybe "a stalled train."

The way things are going these days, don't be surprised if the MTA reefs all current rolling stock and asks for a federal bailout to buy replacement stock.

Actually, I though such a rule was already in effect. Even if the employees did wear gloves, the gloves would probably pick up some of the germs that settled on any surfaces the employee might touch and if washed the gloves would not be dry for the employee's next trip while the properly washed employee’s hands would be.

The crews are in danger because transit is not issuing them "surgical" gloves and masks, especially conductors who have passengers coming up to their face asking questions.

They do have work gloves which they are required to wear.

And transit made the decision last night around midnight.

Now crews are packed together in small crew rooms worse than ever. No 6 foot rule in transit. No masks either. Transit is putting their crews into danger.

Duplicative subway service: We will not run B, W, or Z service on Tuesday, March 24. Alternatives:

B: Use C, D, and Q service instead.
W: Use N and R service instead.
Z: Use J service instead.

No 5 in Brooklyn. No 6 or 7 express.

But presumably the L is still running more than once every 20 minutes and I would venture to guess the M is running to Continental and not 96th.

Sterilization procedures would require changing those gloves after each contamination event. The MTA hasn't really pushed to get the sufficient number of gloves out to do a clean hand operation and it would be logistically difficult/impossible.

Doctors and Nurse have disposable gloves and sanitize after every interaction with certain things being done 'gloves on' and other 'gloves off'.

Its much more difficult to get on a train, run for 30 minutes, sweat, punch at 59th street, open your bottle of water for a quick sip, go back and isolate a door leaf, snap test it, get back in the cab and repeat without slipping up and contaminating yourself on a SINGLE pair of gloves.
