NON ADA. Much as I love streetcars, buses w/functional lifts serve more riders' needs.

From one of my groups. Re:WHYY Article

They further quote Scott Sauer as saying PennDOT will be replacing a bridge on Girard Ave over the CSX tracks near I-76 that will take 12-18 mos. This is in addition to the overhead I-95 work on Frankford Ave. Further they reported that only 4 of the 18 PCC II cars (22%) can pass internal inspection citing rust problems.

I thought Brookville took care of the rust during rebuild. Maybe just the Phila. winters and the copious salt used on Girard Ave. have reeked havoc on the rebuilt cars. Brookville did a nice job on these cars. They should last more than 15 or so years.

They could use Kawasaki cars on the weekends, except they are non-accessible, and ADA law mandates that at least every thirty minutes, an accessible vehicle is on the line.So just using numbers, if you had 15 minute service, it would be a K-car , then a bus 15 min. later, etc.

This happened in the winter, with the K cars mixing in with the PCC-IIs, the K-cars were heavier and worked better in the snow, so they had K & a PPC-II, 15 min. later, etc.

Right. Those cars pre-date ADA, same with the Route 101/102 trolleys.

Last day will be Friday 01/24/2020.
From a Facebook group. The official last day for PCC II operation will be on Friday, January 24, 2020, at the end of the night. SEPTA route 15 will become temporary bus starting on Saturday. The reason for this is multiple PennDOT highway construction projects. (Updated 1/22/20)

This may be another "temporary" bus thing, or are they really going to try to fix the PCC-IIs??????? Stay tuned.

Service Advisory | Route 15
Route 15 Trolley Vehicle Change
Effective January 26, 2020 Through 2021
Effective Sunday, January 26, 2020, SEPTA Trolley Route 15 will operate as bus service through calendar year 2021. Upcoming PennDOT construction projects, scheduled for Girard Avenue, will require the line to be bused so we are taking the proactive step to substitute the service now to provide consistency for customers. This change out also provides the opportunity to overhaul the PCC Trolleys that run on the route to improve service reliability and extend the life of the vehicles. The current schedule will continue to be effective along with service detours, which can be found on system status - https://realtime.septa.org/bus_trolley/15. Thanks for the update - - as per your previous post, they are not running Saturday - - and it's going to be a monsoon Saturday too.

Given SEPTA's poor track record of telling the truth about restorations, I am still optimistic that they will restore the PCCs and bring them back on Route 15 in early 2022.

Is anybody planning to try to ride tomorrow (Friday 1-24-20)? Weather forecast so far for Philadelphia is 'partly cloudy / partly sunny' but not as cold as the last few days. Where would be a good spot to try to find a trolley to ride? Thanks.

So they need to shut down because they only have 8 usable trolley's.

But they are currently using, and they are usable, the 8 usable trolley's.

What difference does it make to rehab the ones that are out of service (for what reasons?) while the 8 still go, and then rotate them out?

Hold on a bit! Wasn’t one of the reasons that Rte 15 was being bustituted was because SEPTA and the suppliers were running out or replacement parts for the PCCIIs?

As I alluded to in another post, there is nothing to prevent a PCC body from having state of the art LRV components installed if original PCC components are unavailable or not able to be manufactured.

Brookville is still in business. They did the original overhauls. And how ws it Muni in San Francisco can operate them, El Paso can, San Diego can? And even more so, how can New Orleans run their Perley Thomas cars that date from the 1920's.
