Re:WHYY Article They further quote Scott Sauer as saying PennDOT will be replacing a bridge on Girard Ave over the CSX tracks near I-76 that will take 12-18 mos. This is in addition to the overhead I-95 work on Frankford Ave. Further they reported that only 4 of the 18 PCC II cars (22%) can pass internal inspection citing rust problems. I thought Brookville took care of the rust during rebuild. Maybe just the Phila. winters and the copious salt used on Girard Ave. have reeked havoc on the rebuilt cars. Brookville did a nice job on these cars. They should last more than 15 or so years. |

They could use Kawasaki cars on the weekends, except they are non-accessible, and ADA law mandates that at least every thirty minutes, an accessible vehicle is on the line.So just using numbers, if you had 15 minute service, it would be a K-car , then a bus 15 min. later, etc.This happened in the winter, with the K cars mixing in with the PCC-IIs, the K-cars were heavier and worked better in the snow, so they had K & a PPC-II, 15 min. later, etc. |

Last day will be Friday 01/24/2020.From a Facebook group. The official last day for PCC II operation will be on Friday, January 24, 2020, at the end of the night. SEPTA route 15 will become temporary bus starting on Saturday. The reason for this is multiple PennDOT highway construction projects. (Updated 1/22/20) |

So they need to shut down because they only have 8 usable trolley's.But they are currently using, and they are usable, the 8 usable trolley's. What difference does it make to rehab the ones that are out of service (for what reasons?) while the 8 still go, and then rotate them out? |
