Disgraceful problems on LIRR - No shoveling at Mineola, unable to accept credit cards for 1+ week
Posted by BrooklynTrain on Tue Dec 3 21:51:08 2019 My credit card company said the LIRR has known about its inability to accept chip credit cards at chip readers for about a week, but still has not fixed the problem. How hard can this be? The LIRR should not collect fares until this problem is solved. I can understand if the Mineola platform (such a busy hub) wasn't shoveled at 4am or 5am. But when it's mid-morning and it's still not shoveled - full of ice, slush, etc, - that is a disaster waiting to happen. Piss poor job. What are the fares going for? This is an embarrassment to the people of NYC. Hopefully the Governor will be able to fix these two problems.

It seemed for awhile that the system was doing well - new subway and commuter cars, renovated stations, high ridership - but now it seems like the MTA's house of cards is collapsing.

Usually there are multiple machines and if chips aren't accepted you can swipe. Not to mention that you can purchase tickets on the app.

I don't see the "swipe" function at the newly installed ticket machines at Atlantic Terminal or Mineola. Many customers complained yesterday about being unable to purchase and it slowed ticket collection down considerably.

It's called government. I was in a major city during a blizzard once. Every building has crewed out all through the graveyard shift clearning sidewalks, streets, and even parking deck. that was the law. Guess what the one building was, that didn't have anything cleared for 3 days? Hint, they made that law mentioned above.

Boarding a train w/o a ticket at a manned station will get you whacked with an onboard penalty, regardless of an in or out of service TVM. But realistically, its a moot point. Most weekday passengers are monthly ticket holders so the RR has got your $$$ already.

TVM at Jay on the bridge to Air Train took 3 minutes for the card reader to work. Left the chip CC in the reader and over the number keypad it kept saying "Follow on screen instructions". I almost missed my train.
